Please pick up to 10 choices (exactly 10 is best, but less is ok if you want to participate but don't have as many as 10 in mind to vote for).

Those getting the most votes (or maybe any votes) will go into another poll, with others from 1991/92 to 2014/15.

Here is the main thread, started by Francis Benali (on loan):
http://www.forestforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42827&page=17

Note: (Poll in process of being created - 142 goals to list!)

Damn, sorry - I thought I'd checked earlier that I could refresh another window and then login again, and the come back to my poll and preview/post it.

But it wouldn't let me after I'd entered all 142 options!

I need to be able to stay logged in for a long time really, without being logged out. I'll see if I can find out how but any advice would be helpful. I might try and re-post the poll later, but unfortunately I couldn't refresh the page with the poll on either so I'll have to start it again. One saving grace is I can put a poll on the thread anytime though. Stay tuned I guess!

I know sometimes you can re-login when asked if you try to post something when you've been logged out. But a few times my page has just been blank after trying that and the post doesn't get posted. So it's logging in for a while that I really want to do I think.

If it's just a matter of clicking the remember me box then I've just done that. Should have thought of that before really, but it seemed like I could just log in in another window just before publishing the poll. I'll see if I stay logged in for the next hour before I do anything (and maybe won't re-try the poll tonight).

EDIT - It might be that Remember Me just means you don't have to enter the password every time, and doesn't mean you stay logged in until you log out. We'll see.

Looks like I did stay logged in, so I'll try later in the week to post the poll again.

We might as well use this thread, and then maybe a mod could tidy it by deleting some of my posts if you like Francis Benali (on loan).

So just to confirm that these abreviations are used for cup games (to fit the description in):
FAC = FA Cup
LC = League Cup
EC = European Cup
UC = Uefa Cup

I've tried to mention which goal is referred to when the player scored more than one in a game. For Birtles against Middlesbrough (a) the nominated goal was scored after a Shilton goal-kick and a Woodcock turn as per what is on the main thread. For Keane vs Chelsea in 90/91 it is the goal in the first half (I remember now there was one in the second half too).

And it's multiple choice with up to 10 goals (ideally 10, but less is fine as per post 1). I think it's ok if you mention any goals in the thread you want to add to your vote, if indeed you can't just go back and add them. The voters so far might have been just wanting to vote for 1 and 4 respectively anyway - thanks for those early votes anyway on behalf of Francis Benali (on loan), myself, forest forever and anyone else that might be involved in finalising a final listing and/or video of top Forest goals at the end (BryanRoy for example has been following closely too).

Forest Forever has kindly offered to make a Youtube compilation for the forum's favourite 50 (I believe?) Forest goals. Please vote, following Kjetil's instructions in the OP.

All the goals on these poll were nominated by the forum.

...and then vote on Poll 2 too, please.

I'll give this a bump as we go over a week from when it was started:

4 goals have exactly 4 votes so far to lead the way on this poll....

- Colin Barett's volley vs Liverpool in the European Cup after his own interception led to Birtles going down the left, outside Phil Thompson and crossing for Woodcock to pick out Barrett with a header

- Trevor Francis's diving header at the back post which won Forest's first European Cup vs Malmo, after John Robertson dribbled down the outside and put in a perfect cross

- Johnny Metgod's searing free-kick into the roof of the net vs West Ham

- Garry Parker's second of the 88/89 Simod Cup Final after Des Walker took the ball down in Forest's box and played the ball to Nigel Clough who turned and played the ball through for Parker to take on and move clear of Bracewell before slotting past Southall.

Just the final Storey-Moore goal vs Everton, and Pearce vs Man Utd in 87/88 (which I know forest forever has footage of as he gave it to me in the first place) are on 3 votes at the moment, and we've had 8 voters to date.

I'll bump this one - actually it will knock the other one onto page 2 but that one does have 8 more votes so far and there is also a link to it in the main thread by Francis Benali (on loan).

Oh yeah, right.

I'll have to have a goal from the 1898 Cup Final. Forest's first major trophy and against our biggest rivals too.

Harsh on two goal hero Arthur Capes, but I'll have John McPherson's goal. After already having cleared one off the line, captain fantastic sealed the deal by scoring the third himself four minutes from time, before collecting the famous old trophy from Lord Rosebery and waggling it in front of the vanquished sheep. This trophy was the second of four FA Cups after the first was nicked from a shop in Brum. David Gold bought it in an auction in 2005 and it's on display in the National Football Museum

From the 'Complete Record of Nottingham Forest 1865-1991'...

'McPherson regained possession for Forest with a fine tackle, and the skipper went forward and planted the ball into the net for the third and final Forest goal.'

Forest had lost 5-0 to their Cup Final opponents Derby only a week before at the Baseball Ground too, making the victory all the sweeter. the 'Complete Record of Nottingham Forest 1865-1991' reports that 'many neutrals saw the game as a foregone conclusion'.

However, Derby's preparation was chaotic. 'The dressing-rooms at the Crystal Palace were individuals cubicles, thus denying the players the usual communal banter, and there was a last minute scare for Derby when they could not find Irish international centre-half Archie Goodall. He was eventually located outside the ground, trying to unload some tickets on which he had unwisely speculated.'

So that's one - John McPherson v Derby 1898. What a year he's having.

I'm thinking you didn't make any of that up this time!

On that note, I hear Duncan Edwards Grandad was pleased 59 years later to see him replicate that goal for England for the winner vs Scotland:

Or it could have been like either Pearce vs Crystal Palace in the 5-0 in the League Cup, or that Jenas vs Bradford one.

It reads like a pretty good FA Cup Final goal anyway!

Might as well get this vote in now too. My favourite...

Neil Webb v Luton 1989 Littlewoods Cup Final

2:30...

I was told off at half-time by a Junior Reds steward for saying we were going to lose.

Haha, I don't remember thinking Forest were going to lose.

As you know I put that as the final/number 1 goal on my video I made but it looks like it needs your vote too indeed (unlike the Simod Cup goal by Parker).

Obviously you can't score the winner for Forest in the European Cup Final and not be included in any greatest ever Forest goals list for rest of eternity.

John Robertson v Hamburg 1980 European Cup Final

I'll vote once I've decide on ten, not sure it'll let me vote one at a time?

I don't think it will no.

Sorry, just been getting defensive/annoyed on another thread, but still will continue to monitor this thread even if I try and post less generally. And I hope those videos I did were at least a little entertaining.

Damn, it's so easy to 'lose it' on here sometimes though lol!

Trying to make this bump a bit more interesting:

For those that saw both how does the Joe Baker overhead in the poll compare to Duncan McKenzie's (at Luton, if you can't watch it yet but can recall it) at 44:30?
There's a nice McKenzie goal at 35:00 too if you ignore the 4 goals a West Brom player got in the same match! (Maybe a candiadate for one of those best goals in a defeat we talked about on the main thread?).

The Forest defending (maybe partly bad luck with all the bouncing off players....or maybe not) for that first West Brom goal might show that it happened like that in the past too! I think Liam O'Kane's shins might have been involved IIRC, but to be fair I think I noticed a goal by him in that Newcastle cup tie with the pitch invasion that would be a fair call for this poll too!
