I could be wrong but I think the situation is that if both the Johnson and Mangala sales fall in this year's accounts we'd pretty much break even. I'm basing this on the document that came with the points deduction that said we're projecting a £12-15m loss this season, and there's an "option" for Lyon to buy Mangala for £15m at the end of the season (it depends whether this option is included in the projection obviously). Plus various other options which are probably unlikely to come off, Worrall, Panzo, ?.I'd always assumed that if Johnson wasn't allowed in this year's accounts we'd be ok pretty much the year after because of that sale and the way amortisation works. Mangala sale too. Am I wrong?
So that would mean -£40m, -£52m ,£0 = £92m against a £83m allowance - so potentially a £9m breach if we do nothing.
If (big if) the following season though it would be -£52m ,£0, ??? against an £105m allowance. Again I don't think the new rules are coming in next season yet? So if my assumptions are correct (obviously I could be talking out my arse ) we'd be able to lose £63m in 2024/25 without falling foul of FFP. A lot of this would probably be swallowed up by amortisation costs, but we surely wouldn't have to let star players go unless the price was right. The wage bill ought to be smaller as well with the number of players out of contract this season.
There would of couse still be a £9m breach if we just break even in 2023/24, but given Everton got two points deducted following a £63m loss, and a £16m total breach, I'd like to see the PL try and give us more than that .
That said, I would like to see us make as many sales of fringe players as it takes in June to really get on top of it and stay on the right side of the rules. But after that we should be OK. Until the next random spending spree anyway.
