Beaten for a header again, really like the guy but actually feel like he'd be better in midfield than at centre back. Freedom to play and isn't an area for us to get exposed.
In the air, his size makes him a bit of a liability. Contrast that with a Niakhite, a Boly or a Felipe for example (who we dont have right now) and theres daylight between us.

I think this is the risk with him. But for that goal Montiel lost the player and it looked like M was playing zonal, so he arrived in his zone without any defensive cover

None of our CBs would have won that - He wasn't even marking Bree who came in front from his blind side. Montiel lost/was checked from his man.

He could have done better - barely left the ground - but there is mitigation as stated. Definitely question marks over his aerial ability still though for me. We've conceded an awful lot of headed goals since he started playing - there must be some correlation.

Yeah it's a problem unfortunately, and one that wasn't unexpected despite the usual LTLF overreaction to a new player being good.

No point considering him for a central midfield berth either as we're well stocked in that position.

Ultimately it's a case of play him and accept the drawbacks or switch him out for Niakhate when he's back, assuming we're not going to play a back 3 anytime soon anyway.

I know it's been frowned upon on here but I'm another who thinks he'd be perfect as a defensive midfielder.

Great at tackling.
Good positional awareness.
Physical.
Amazing on the ball.
Drives forward at every opportunity.
Struggles with headers - much less of an issue at CDM.

It makes a lot of sense to me.

Can’t we just clone him and stretch one of them. The 6ft version plays CDM and the 6ft 3 inch version plays at the back.

I just love him on the ball. His forward passing is a joy, how comfortable he is on the ball is too.

I agree. He's got all the tools to be a top CDM. Not that he's bad at centre back, but I think he's more suited further up the pitch. Wonderful player either way.

I wonder what he’s like in goal. Imagine having a keeper with his distribution ability. He can’t be any worse at shot stopping than Onana can be?

I like him where he is, personally I think his range of passing is probably his strongest asset and playing him in the middle would make it harder to get him on the ball with play infront of him

I'm sure with some coaching he could probably do a job in midfield but I don't think there's any reason to rebrand him, put a big ball winner like Boly next to him and let him continue developing into the deep playmaker/CB hybrid

Absolutely. He's a very good CB,cdespite being young and inexperienced. Let him develop in that position.

One less gobshite...
He hasn't even played 50 senior games yet.

Can we just let him develop as a centre back?
