Why don't a group of ltlf members get together and record it... it can't be that hard to get a karaoke version of mull of kintyre... then just give it to Forest to play :p I'm sure they'd get the clearance lol
 
not certain but i think we'd have to pay loads in breach of copyright if we recorded and played different lyrics. i think out best option is to play one of the many instrumental versions + suggest OUR lyrics in the programme etc
 
If anyone has heard of Weird Al Yankovich, bascially does parodies of popular songs... you don't need clearance (In the States) to do a parody version, I'm not sure if this would fall into the category
 
Not keen on the second and third verses, they're a tad too soppy for my linking. The first verse, which I believe was always sung previously, is brilliant though. I'l love to hear it sung along with the chorus but these things never seem to materialise.

Rather than recording it, why not just get a large group together (ideally at an away game) and get it going? Same applies for any new chant. It's by far the best way as if no-one joins in then you dont look like a wally on your own!

You have to pay the publisher for the right to cover the tune, although a good rights lawyer would probably extract something for the words also as the city ground song is not a parody of MoK.

HOwever, it has been done before. When Charlton went back to the Valley they recorded a vesion of the MoK tune with their "Valley Flloyd Road" lyrics for the song.

They were inspired by us to do 'Valley Floyd Road' (that's the most polite way I can put it) and yet managed to beat us to having a proper recorded version. This needs rectifying. It's our anthem :mad:!
 
Yes and to be honest hearing the 'Mull of Kintyre' lyrics blasting over the tannoy is just plain wrong - it'd be better as an instrumental.
 
The two additional ones are recent additions presumably by the poster who started the thread - I'm not a fan, to be honest, although I like the sentiment :)
 
The first verse actually is part of the original chant, though.

Like Winnits has pointed out, the authentic Forest version includes the 'Far have I travelled' verse. What you believe to be the entire song is, in fact, just the chorus.

The second and third verses have never been used and must have been dreamt up by someone recently. I think the second verse would be better with the following small changes that have occurred to me:

Passing the leather like Clougie's great men,
Please take us back to the heights we knew then.
Games when we sang with the old Trent End choir,
And beat Scousers and sheep and set Europe on fire.
 
ring McCartney up and he might get a few bagpipes together and redo it for us.
 
I read the new verses last year on BBC 606 so they weren't made up by the thread author. Like someone said above; I like the sentiment but it is pretty pointless. My big problem is the chav timing that happens when it's played before kick off and you end up with two different groups singing completely out of sinc.
 
The full version is too long. Football fans lose interest very quickly and songs consisting of more than a few lines just peter out into nothing very quickly.

The classic example of sustaining a short chant would be the West Ham fans at Villa Park in the 1991 semi-final when they sang the same chant for the best part of half an hour. Problem is that I can't remember which chant it was - "Billys Bonds Claret and Blue Army" I think.
 
It was indeed Billy Bonds' Claret & Blue Army.

It was pretty much the whole second half too!
 
Not quite the same, but at Brighton a couple of years ago (we won 2-0 with Tyson scoring both. Clingan got sent off), our fans were singing 'Calderwood's Red and White Army' over and over for what seemed like twenty minutes at a time. We happened to score both times they were doing it as well.
 
I don't remember hearing the "extended lyrics" version at all in the Trent End in the 70's, all I can remember is the chorus repeated. That's not to say it didn't happen though.

Nope, I was just saying that's all the song needs to be. :)

As for 'long' chants, I have a vague memory of the Forest faithful singing ONE-NIL DOWN AND OUT OF EUROPE at Manchester United for about an hour in a match at the City Ground during the '95/'96 season.
