The thing with Derbyshire that impresses me more than his finishing (and he IS a natural finisher), is his movement - he drags defenders all over the place which in turn creates space for others. I would agree that his physical frame means winning headed balls against 6'4" monster defenders isn't his strong suit, but we have had plenty of strikers where that could be said of in the past. Bryan Roy, anyone?

One thing I think is fair to say is that Derbyshire wouldn't be suited to a lone striker role, nor playing alongside a similar forward however given that Henderson is probably our best pound-for-pound striker at the moment, and is EXACTLY the kind of partner that Derbyshire would feed off well, I don't think it is particularly controversial to suggest that both of them could start together and be very effective - especially if given enough time to forge a proper partnership.

Thats the problem at the moment - we don't have a genuine partnership brewing up front. We have forwards who are very good but woefully off-form (Cox, Blackstock), forwards who create havoc in defences but may not be the best finishers (Mackie, Miller) and two natural finishers who are in form (Derbyshire, Henderson). If we keep rotating the forwards game to game, we are unlikely to know what our natural front-two should look like. It could be Mackie and Hendo, it could be Cox and Miller or Derbyshire and Blackstock. Who knows....but I think the key to our season will be trying to get that mix right, and right now - the two 'form' forwards are Derbyshire and Henderson, so thats what I would start with.

I don't know if i'd say Derbyshire is 'in-form.'

Pre-season means nothing in reality, and despite grabbing in a couple of goals, he does very little else on the pitch, often losing out on possession due to his slight frame.

Hendo and Mackie or Hendo and Cox would be my top 2 pairings. I really hope Cox gets fitter and finds his shooting boots as he has the capability to be a 15+ goal scorer he just hasn't got near that level for Forest.

Again, that's just not true. He's very good at holding it up and whilst he'll never win much against the likes ofMorgan, who does? So far, he's had about half the time of Cox, Mackie and the likes and scored more. I don't give a damn if he takes a dump for the other 89 minutes, so long as he keeps scoring.

He's earned his shot. Not sure what else he has to do. He's in better form than Mackie or Cox for sure.

Dex has never really lost his layoffability so maybe a sub combo of those two at some point is worth a gander. Bound to happen eventually with our cards mounting up.

Hendo and Mackie
I'd go with this. Cox is a great player but not 100%.
BUT, I think Derbyshire should get more starts, like Barnfather said, we should be starting with in form players and Derbyshire has been scoring goals. Its easy to dismiss some of them like "it was only a friendly" or "it was only a cup game", but who else was knocking them in?

I was Derbyshires biggest critic during the Shteve years but he has done enough to start. Him and Hendo on Saturday please

Didn't see him last night but I keep seeing he's scoring. I said earlier in the thread that he's only earned a place on the bench. I think now he may deserve a start....... Derbyshire Vs Derby?

The lads trying hard and does have some skill. His performances have reversed my opinion of him but he shouldn't start v Dierby. His miss last night was about decision making - he got himself into the right position but the execution of his choice was unfortunate. Impact sub :nottsflag:

Yeah I haven't seen the highlights. Just the goals scored. Was it a bad one?

Him and Henderson's goal record for how many games they have started is really impressive. Derbyshire must be joint top scorer now isn't he?

He is putting himself there, he continues how has been past few games he I am sure will get his chance.

Hope hendo and Derbyshire start Sat. Doubt billy will have the balls to drop mackie though ESP now he has the excuse that Derbyshire picked up a knock last night.

None of our forwards seem very proficient in 1 on 1 opportunities at the moment.
