After watching him a couple of times in pre season, he looks like he has a promising future, but I doubt Lamouchi would be happy to have to rely on him for a run of games. Looks a bit raw.

They were my thoughts, but SSM seemed convinced Darikwa would only be hindering his progress, so he must have seen some real shows of first team ability at some point? :dunno:

Pre-seasone such a tough read.

Yes but usually the rule of thumb is that youngsters tend to look better in preseason, because they are the ones trying to impress. Over the years I’ve seen many young players who looked good in preseason but then either disappeared without a trace or looked out of their depth in the competitive season. He looks like he has potential, but it’s hard to imagine a coach who’s expected to achieve promotion wanting to go with an inexperienced player for any more than a handful of games.

For one, Daniel Farke at Norwich brought through Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey in the last couple of seasons.

I knew someone would mention Norwich last season. If SM thinks Richardson is in the same class as those two then all well and good. I reckon he has Cash earmarked for the role anyway.

We might all actually see the lads in action soon and then we'll know for sure, which will spoil all this guess-work.

Or we won't and then we'll know that Sabri shares the apprehension of our pundits.

Personally, I know nothing.

I wish we'd have seen more of him in pre-season, I'd have liked to have seen him get some minutes against Crystal Palace and Real Sociedad personally. Hopefully he gets a start in the League Cup game.

Cash will like as not start at RB v WBA.
Richardson ought to be on the bench.
Unless SL goes for a back 3 with Worrall on the right, Dawson in the middle and Robinson on the left.
Cash would then start as RWB and the coming off the bench would probably be Ameobi.
I don't see that scenario being one that SL goes with mind.

How many subs do we get to name this season? Having a young, specialist right-back on the bench might be a stretch. Assuming Cash does start right and Robinson left - I think we'd likely only carry one full-back on the bench and with Ribeiro being a Right-Footed Left-Back - he could probably cover both positions. Can't have a dedicated sub for every position.

I remember when Brendan Moloney was going to be the best thing since sliced bread.

In Defence of the irishman, it’s not really difficult to be the best defender at the Club, when you found yourself the only defender at he club!

Seen Jayden Richardson play a decent number of times.

I've got total faith he is good enough and he is ready enough to play. I understand the nervous side of it, but it's not an age thing. It's about quality. He has it.

I'm not concerened about someone watching one friendly and saying he wasn't the best player on the pitch or whatever. It's about the fundamentals of his game, and he genuinely has them. He's fast, strong, comfortable on the ball, full of desire to overlap. he has quality in the final third, particularly with a bit more thought than we see with Darikwa or Cash. He doesn't just put it in the box without thinking, he'll drag it past his man, he'll cut it back, drill it in. So much there to work with, and it'll only come out when he gets the opportunity. Will really grow with it.

I've got faith and belief in him.

I have no doubt Cash will start RB and he's earned that right IMO too. But i'd not be in a rush to go out and get another RB tbh.

If he's that good and you think he's ready, then maybe you don't need a big expensive transfer, but just another cheap choice to challenge Cash and Richardson, neither of whom are 'safe' choices.

We need a proper right back. It isn't even certain that Cash is up to the role. 6 days to sign one...

Been thinking about it and, regardless of Richardsons quality, I think another RB is still needed anyway considering Cash isn't adverse to a knock, and Mouch may want him as an attacking option at some point in games.

I’ve watched him a few times & always been very impressed.
He’s the sort that BC would suddenly promote to the first team without any pre warning.
I’d like to see him blooded in league cup games though ( Fleetwood? ) to test his readiness.

If wba can play an 18 year old at right back and have lolley under control then we can play Richardson

It’s simple really

Slaven just picked Ferguson who was MOM

And SM gave Johnson his debut because he's been our best young player during preseason and looks like he has genuine quality.

I said 'rule of thumb', not 'always the case'. Obviously some young players stand out, but mostly young players at this club get ridiculously overhyped before they've even played a first team game.

Gone Exeter on loan
Good loan for him. Exeter play some nice football and he gets to endure the physicality and hopefully some regular football. Next season seems about right for his potential progression into the first team.

They will have scoured him when we played their under 23s in the cup last season. Great move if he plays every week.

Big move for him. Before Tuesday I would have argued for similar moves for Appiah and Johnson but I think they’re nearly ready.

What?
In the shower, post match, with a Brillo Pad?
Well, you have to take the rough with the smooth I suppose.
And Exeter are a lovely family club, nick named "The Grecians"
Coincidence?
I think not!
