All this talk of Forest potentially being in financial trouble after the summer, (should we not be bought out by some rich person), got me wondering what people would think if we were relegated to Div 1, (looking more and more unlikely thankfully, but just for arguments sake), and subsequently were facing bankruptcy:

Would people prefer to start again from scratch as FC Forest with our proud history going to the history books and starting again from the lowest league, or

Join with Notts County in Div 1, (if they don't get promoted), as Notts Forest and play in red, white and black (for example). I believe Ray Trew is the owner of County and that they own their land and ground, so Meadow Lane could in the long term be a suitable place for a new stadium which could have enough space to hold what would be presumably slightly larger combined attendances and potential growth if we we to get future promotions. As far as I'm aware we don't really have a hatred of each other like other clubs in the same cities, (OK maybe some from them to us but its not normally bad). With some more income from larger combined attendances and the possibility one day for a new stadium with associated income potential, could do better under FFP. I understand for a few years Meadow Lane wouldnt be able to get everyone in, so perhaps Notts Forest would continue to play at the City Ground until Meadow Lane is redeveloped. If the Council got the land back they might be prepared to help pay to redevelop Meadow Lane.

Or, maybe a ground share at Meadow Lane would be more suitable and the council could give us some money instead to get their land to develop into flats or whatever and we put that money towards financial survival?

I was wondering this as I personally don't hate County at all and have been to see them several times and can see the financial advantages of joining forces. I suspect a lot of people would prefer independence. People have said if we drop down the leagues they would understandably stop buying a season ticket, so would they still not support an FC Forest in whatever league we'd start in. If we were to join together would ours and theirs achievements be to the history books or would it be amalgamated?

PS, sorry to the grammar police for any spelling / grammatical mistakes, (the point wasn't for an English lesson but more to get some debate going).

If one doesn't hate County and lives Nottingham way why not just support them, as the local club?

Me? I'll be getting behind Lincoln City, my hometown club, if Forest go to the wall, which we won't. Primarily to stop them doing the same. If both those clubs blinked out of existence, I'd start going to hull matches and probably get quite into it, because I live in Hull. It would never be the same, though. Never.

That's not to say that I wouldn't lend my support to a new club, and they might even suck me in, groundshare or not.

If Nottingham Forest FC goes away completely though, why can't the new club be called Nottingham Forest FC?

OK, Notts Forest were a cricket club. ( No idea if they still exist, sorry).

I am not one of those who hate County, never have, never will. I actually remember some cracking matches, County Cup, sun shining and County fans in the Bridgford End, before the redevelopment, in the sun lol whilst we in the "cow shed" on a fine day were shaded.

As someone born n bred in Nottingham, no matter where I am, if I cannot get to matches I listen, and my 1st result is my beloved Trickies. I look for and hope County and Stags do well.

A merge has been suggested many times and simply won't work.

I do like to see Imps do well also, had some cracking debates with a local fan called Andy the Ratcatcher, fanatical fan, and there was a good banter and exchange a few years ago where Ratcatcher got folks going to Sincil Bank.

I'd give up following a team and concentrate on my fledgling porn career.

If Forest folded, I'd still get the bus to the pub on Saturdays and spend a few hours drinking in peace and quiet.

As long as the wife never found out, I'd be OK!

Forest would never merge with County, the County fans wouldn't have it. Would we accept Derby merging with us?

I'd be happy to support a fan led Forest FC or something. I also think, due to the size of our fan base and the resources we could amass, we'd blitz our way through the very lower leagues (like AFC Wimbledon) which would be a very fun ride to be on.

Just go and support Derby. They're all Forest people there anyway.

Sounds more fun than our current predicament!

chriscl's scenario of being able to go to the pub without having it ruined by the football sounds pretty good too.

Couldn't support anyone else, especially not a hybrid of County and Forest, we need to remain as our full selves. I guess I'd support the new Forest team, whatever they'd be called. If there wasnt another team created, I'd probably go abroad for football to Club Brugge or FC Koln. English football would be shit without us.
