It'd probably make more sense to loan them Richards at this point, to help him regain his fitness.

Lodi and Toffolo are more than capable options for us in the meantime.
Disagree. There’s no chance he’ll play at Olympiacos more than here.

Could this mean Spence coming in on loan?

RB - Aurier / Spence / Williams
LB - Lodi / Richards / (Williams)

Agree with the comments that this is a better move towards the end of the window when Richards ability / fitness is proven.

I don’t see Spence coming. Aurier has been immense, Williams can play there too. Last seasons system suited Spence but he never looked as good when we played 4 at back, which we play now.

Richards 'ain't suddenly going to get fit any time soon.
I agree the progress he's made in his recovery has been almost geriatric but I don't see the club loaning out a left back unless they feel we're adequately covered there. Whether that means Williams or Richards who knows.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see us move for Spence, though I guess it would come down to how much of a hit they would take on the fee. As for Richards I said the same as Ashley on here somewhere a little way back.

(Edit: in that unless we want to keep a really close eye on him fitness wise we should look to loan out)

I doubt we'd see him play here at all this season if he stayed to be honest. We aren't in a position where we can use a place in the 25 man squad for a player who has been injured for most of the season and is going to take time to get fully fit.

We won't see Richards play for Forest until next season at the earliest, regardless of what happens in January IMO.

If Richards doesn’t get a squad number / Toffolo leaves that leaves 3 players to cover LB and RB. Must be someone coming in as otherwise we’re looking at Colback as cover?

Daley Blind. LB covers Toffs and CDM covers Kouyate. Great experience and could be the signing of experience masterstroke that Coops pulled off with Cook last Jan

Would have Daley Blind here like a shot. Super talented player, bags of experience at the top level, not too old, versatile, top lad.

Just cancelled his contract with Ajax so now available on a free. Defo a make it happen one for me
Yes, I'd noticed that.

Though usually when a player terminates like that it's because they already have something lined up.

I would suspect that Blind won't be coming here because better clubs across Europe will want him and be a more tempting option. But it's one I'd love to see.

That's the part I don't understand about the persistent rumours that Toffolo will sign for us (on loan). Aurier and Lodi are the two starters right now, and behind them you only have Neco Williams (who can, admittedly, also cover the LB position). It does not really make sense for you to lend Toffolo out, unless you count upon Colback for the job until Richards is fully fit.

The timing is pretty strange for the Toffolo loan as well. You probably need to take your time, to check Richards' fitness, we're desperate for a LB immediately (maybe two actually, the plan is to get rid of eight [!!!] wide backs -four have already left- and to bring in two or three -one has already signed).

Clearly Richards is favoured above Toffolo so if the medical team think he'll get reasonably fit before end of January such that he can at least play backup to Lodi then Toffolo will be 3rd if not 4th choice and can go out on loan.

I don't think we'll be in for Spence, Aurier's doing well and we invested £17m in Williams - we need to see something for that, having him 3rd choice full back isn't going to help.

Spence might be one for Summer if we don't keep Lodi, Richards injury hasn't gone away and so we're left with Aurier, Williams and Toffolo, at which point Williams would become primary LB and Spence could fight out the RB slot with Aurier.

I think that’s probably how I see it but I just have a sneaking suspicion that we’ll go for him anyway, especially seeing as Spurs are after another right back at £45m.

Williams could end up being the new Perch but on the left or right and as a winger.

Well, the rumours about Toffolo were just that, rumours. We bought a young Brazilian left back, and if we manage (please God, make it so) to sell our starting left back (Oleg Reabciuk, from Moldova, unanimously despised by the entire fan base), we'll probably sign Valencia's Toni Lato. The only way I can see Toffolo being loaned out to us would be if Reabciuk is sold at the end of the window and the deal with Valencia somehow does not materialize. Otherwise, if you need to loan Toffolo out, it will probably be to another team.

Rumours are that Hull want to sign him, personally I don't think he is good enough for this level and that would open a place in the 25 man squad.

Loan or perm?? Loan, let him go. Colback can step in as cover. I wouldn't sell him though. He's way behind Lodi and, I can only presume, we might see Richards at some point?
