Harry Kane is crap - there, I've said it.

Crap? No.
Overrated? Possibly

Past it.

He's too slow now and drops too deep. Time to move on. He's in danger of turning into a Beckham and being indulged
He was always slow & dropped deep

That just shows you how good he is that he puts up the amount of goals & assists he has without outstanding physical attributes like all the other freak goalscorers have.

He's a goalscorer. Puts the ball in the net with composure better than pretty much any other player on the planet.

But he likes to drop deep and act as a playmaker, where frankly he's not any better than an average PL midfielder at best, and too many managers have indulged him with this over the years, it's made him a weaker player than he should have been.

Like Elanga and Johnson needed to be told to play on the shoulder all the time rather than try and get involved in the build up, Kane needs to be on the end of moves not starting them. It doesn't help him either that England have for the last couple of tournaments fielded very creative players behind him but none of them really took the onus to run past the defenders, either with the ball or without. The result of course is what you saw at the recent Euro's, England get a lot of a ball in opposition final third, but outside the penalty area, and create very few chances of note.

He's a good player still but he's not right for England at the moment. Watkins would be a much better fit.

I don't agree at all with this, Kane's passing is outstanding & very few in world football are better

If he wasn't such a lethal finisher he would have been a world class number 10 instead. He drops deep and still manages almost a goal a game so why wouldn't you.

My take from this mornings various threads is you overrate players too easily. A quick check of the Zach Clough and Jonjo Shelvey threads seems to back that thesis up. ;)

Question: Is "very few in world football are better" Kane a better midfielder than Rodri, KDB, Rice, Guimares, Odegaard, Palmer, Foden, Eriksen, MGW? What about Bellingham, Camavinga, Ruiz, Kroos, Tchouameni? Eze, Mainoo? What about Sangare, apparently he's elite...

I find it hilarious that Kane's gone into a Bayern team who've won everything there is to win in Germany for a generation and in his first season there they finish third.

Only about 1/5th of his goals are pens, so he has a good record regardless.

Does help him being at Bayern though who score about 2.5 goals per game and have done for years, although last year (Kane's first season there) was their lowest goals tally in 6 years.

Yeah, I've no issue with him being in the England squad, but he shouldn't be starting any more against stronger opposition. All that happens is he drops deep and pings the ball up to someone who's not as good as he is in front of goal.

Handy sub or alternative option? Cool. England's number 1? Nah.

Kane for Spurs was an incredible number 10 as well as 9, you only have to look at how many goals Son scored while playing alongside him. It's probably fair to say Kane hasn't struck up such a successful partnership with any of England's forward players.

I'm still not entirely sure whether his lacklustre performance in the Euros was down to him not being suited to the system being played or him being absolutely knackered.

I suspect a combination of the two.

I can understand why you'd build a team round a Ronaldo or Beckenbauer but Kane? Absolutely not.

There are no untouchable positions in the England squad. Shouldn't even have a permanent Captain, IMHO, it encourages the very mindset that is keeping Kane in a job.

Think John Stones might be "untouchable" given the way England want to play and that England have a dearth of centre backs (and more so those who are right footed).

He’s an outstanding player.

But England aren’t going to play their best with him in the team any longer IMO.

If he’s willing to come off the bench, great. Would be a great option. But we need to start with someone who will stretch a defence and occupy defenders to get the best out of the likes of Foden, Palmer and Bellingham.

All of those players want to be in the same spaces that Kane drops into. If you play Kane then your 10 and wide players have to be those who get beyond him every time, not players who want to play between the lines and make things happen.

Never really rated him and if you look thru my thousands of past posts you'll find it (ya cant be that suicidal  )

He's not bad but vastly overrated.

Lovely player, but he’s an absolute Jonah, who’s won nothing - ever - and has taken this „winning run“ to the Bundesliga „Rekordmeister“ and similarly hobbled them.

Frankly, I hope he stays at Bayern for the next decade and curses them accordingly.
