Mr. Brian Clough.

The greatest there has ever been, or probably ever will be.

Those of us who saw the glory days were the lucky generation in the long history of
Nottingham Forest Football Club.
Thanks again,Cloughie.
I only caught the end of the 80s and early 90s with Cloughie when he was waning a bit, but even then from hearing the voices around me, you knew and felt how special he was and you could see the aura he had on the touchline. Adding to that, Forest could still beat any other team on their day.

In 1992 I went to Wembley to watch Forest in 2 cup finals in 2 weeks. Very special times for a young boy who thought that was the norm...

When my Dad was alive he always reminded me what a great player he was having scored 204 goals from just 222 appearances for Middlesbrough and 18 Hatrics in his career.

He was some player, my Dad was delayed getting into Ayresome Park and joined the celebrations half way through the first half, not noticing the scoreboard he yelled 1-0 a bloke stood next to him said "No its not it's 3-0 yer silly booger, Clough is on a hatrick"

With respect to Pep, and I'm sure I'm repeating myself I read this at the time. A few years ago when Manchester City played Burton Albion in the League Cup and I think City thrashed Burton at Burton. At the final whistle Pep shook hands with Nigel and said "Let's go and have a drink and talk about your father who was a genius" For that alone I'll always respect Pep Guardiola

Never VP-Cloughie was a one-off genius from an era when the manager was the boss.
I was showing the missus some Cloughie clips this morning and explaining to her that what made Clough so great for me, and why I admired him as almost a father like figure, was the fact that he was so down to earth and so grounded.

That's why I posted that video of him with those girl guides quotes because can you imagine some of these modern managers like talking about the British girl guides? lol. There's something so comforting and so grounding and so traditional about that and Cloughie was that the embodiment of that.

There he was mixing it with the best and with people like Muhammad Ali talking about him and yet here he is talking about girl guides thinking day, which is just as local and as down to earth as you can get. What a man, and that's why I think there'll never be anybody but like him because almost all today's managers are not only robots but they're caught up in that cycle of bigger cars, bigger houses, flashier lifestyles, it's all bull.

Cooper had very similar qualities to Clough in that respect, and thus it's why he's one of the rare exceptions who comes close for me.
