Financial Fair Play (FFP)

The only revenues clubs should be able to claim against FFP/PSR should be directly football related. Matchday, TV, Prize Money. Everything else should be capped. At about £25m tops. It’s getting silly.

I just watched Darren Fletcher's rant about the idea of scrapping replays in the FA Cup, and he goes on to talk about the wider issues of inequality in football, and how the top few teams have the money and power to dictate what happens. The vast majority in the pyramid have little or no say.

This, coupled with this season's FFP issues and the attention generated by VAR and dodgy referee decisions benefitting the top teams, makes me think that there's a change coming.

People are cottoning on to the widespread corruption in football. Money has ruined the game and as football fans - especially us who are old enough to remember that football existed just perfectly fine before 1992 - we should be saddened at what the game has become.

Let's hope so mate.

That would give me some hope that people will then start to wake up to the plentiful cons which the government and social "elites" churn out yearly.

Money and excessive capitalism have ruined everything, from football to music to healthcare etc. etc. People live for the destination now, not the journey.

Yeah really what is the difference here between someone spending whatever they want and setting up part of their company in city’s name and adding it to revenue for FFP.

Agreed, Alf.

Our high streets are dying because the indie shops can't compete with large chains. Now it's moved online so the vast profits can be maximised even more. There are so many elements of modern life that is regressing instead of progressing, and most of it is driven by greed.

Mini rant here but, similar to Forest's latest blunder with the SC prices (maximum wankery and fuckwittery for minimum return), it drives me nuts how many places in Mansfield demand you pay for parking.

Like, for years people just used to drive into town just for the sake of driving into town. They'd go with no intention of buying anything, and just wandering around and seeing folk they new. Course, in reality, they'd usually see something they wanted and end up spending some cash too. It made for a good day out, they were happy, and local businesses got some coin too. Win-win all round.

But for the sake of a few quid parking, loads of folk I know don't bother now. Shocking IMO.

The town I live and the town where I used to live before that both used to be busy towns. There barely used to be any closed down buildings. Lots of smaller independent shops, cafes and pubs and you'd inevitably bump into friends and family whilst walking about town.

Nowadays both places are both ghost towns (as The Specials once sang), like many other towns in the UK. Its incredibly sad. The heart has been ripped out of our communities for the sake of multi-hundred millionaires and billionaires making a few extra quid.

Consumer behaviour has changed loads in the last decade though.

Keeping up with the Jones' used to extend to all sorts: kitchen gadgets, sports equipment etc and I don't think that exists anywhere near the same extent as it did previously, it's mainly focused on size of house and brand of car now, neither of which result in money going to the high street.

And alongside that you've got your internet shopping option which is both cheaper and more convenient when needing to purchase items.

It's no surprise retail is dying. The big mistake the councils up and down the land are making is that they can't see beyond the model of leasing store fronts to semi-permanent tenants. Needs to be a vision beyond that.

Whenever I’m in the Canaries I’m always surprised at the amount of free parking everywhere. It brings it home how much everything is monetised in this country.

As you live in Mansfield Alf you know as well as I do that everything went downhill when they closed the mines and hosiery/textile factories.
There were no initiatives to bring jobs into the area that had been lost so nobody had any money to spend and shops on the high streets closed as a result. They were closing before Amazon came along.

We have free parking here in Sudbury, but they are thinking of changing that simply because people demand services be provided by the local council, but Government make it practically impossible for the council to provide those services. So parking charges are the way forward, there is nothing else, the council are between a rock and a hard place.

We have 2 hours of free parking in Sutton and it's still a shithole :ROFLMAO:

Remember those halcyon days when we thought it was only that bloody foreign football that was corrupt?

Maybe councils should look at how towns in the Netherlands thrive and survive and it certainly isn't by attracting more cars.

Agreed, mate. And we also remember when we used to point to political regimes in Africa and South America and condemn the overt corruption and mendacity that was on display? Where did we go wrong?

Yes I agree

Chelsea included a hotel they sold to their owners! That’s great if you’re in West London, but how are you meant to compete if you’re in Nottingham, Sunderland or Sheffield? It’s totally unfair.

One other point, if public transport there was as good as it is in the rest of Europe perhaps, you wouldn’t need to use a car so much?

I remember one Sunday afternoon after being on the lash with the lads from football we went into The market pub in the square in Mansfield. Something erupted (nothing to do with our group) the body count was like a scene out of platoon and there were tables flying everywhere and pint pots all over the shop. An Asian guy called Dave ran it, sadly died a few years back and he stood up on the bar and shouted "Oiiiiiii, if you're gonna do that.....other room" Despite all the carnage it was the laughing that I nearly died from

Said on here before, about 94 took 3 lads from Belfast on the Mansfield pub crawl one Saturday night. Said they’d never been so scared, would rather take their chances with the IRA than another night out in Mansfield.
Leeming street is quite the sight at pub and club chucking out time. I remember Liam Lawrence being thrown into a police meat wagon once shouting do you know who I am . Lad could scrap though I'll give him that

I met an Irish lad at a pub in Sutton in the 70's, a really nice bloke. He was scared to death of people hearing his accent.
Ahhh, the good old days eh?
