Financial Fair Play (FFP)

Its weird, I know there will not be any actual data as in numbers etc on this thread or the punishment if any just yet, just our opinions, but for some reason I read this every day and can’t seem to get enough of it.
Must be the anticipation of whatever is coming or wanting to see how everyone else thinks ?
I’m with you on that. I see it as a crumb of comfort that everyone else on here is just as worried as me about it all!

Being kind to EM, maybe at the time of the first offer he did sit down with his team and - with sharpened pencils - crunch the numbers. You, know, ran a few scenarios.

Maybe they were bullish from the off and just thought 'f*** it', pointless running the numbers as whatever the outcome they would make a case and lawyer their way through.

Maybe, in this hypothetical, they did go a step further and understood the ramifications of holding for extra cash and the risk of a penalty being a possible points deduction. Granted, they wouldn't have had the Everton example as a benchmark, but surely the possibility had to be in the mix. And, still they just thought 'f*** it'.

Maybe, they considered the possible points deduction a little bit more but though it manageable... absorbable, as next year the team would be top-ten material for sure. Especially, with the positive responses from Elanga, Origi, Sangare and Tavares' agents. Plus, the promise of a fit and firing Chris Wood and some kid from Brazil. So, 'f*** it'.

Agreed, suspect we knew exactly where we were against FFP thresholds all the way through last season.

You can argue about individual purchases in the Winter 2023 transfer window, but as a collective, they kept us up. The club must have known even back then that BJ was the makeweight and would need to be sold.

Then they took a risk of a punishment to delay the sale thinking it would be a slap on the wrists. Must have been a black day in the boardroom when Everton's original 10 points was announced.

I suspect when the owners made the decision to delay the sale (before Everton got hit by 10 points), it was a simple decision

I suspect if they had their time again they would have sold at £30M
The flaw to this statement is that the player wasn't actually interested in signing for Brentford.

The flaw is that we got ourselves into the situation we did. It’s an epic fail from EM and his leadership team.

Whatever we breached by we should have sold the players necessary to make sure we were not in breach of FFP rules.

The questions we should be asking are not whether we were right to wait to sell Johnson for the extra £15m to make us compliant (we were) but why the hell did we let ourselves get in a position where we were so dependent on getting that value for him?

We wasted, absolutely wasted, much more than £15m who contributed nothing to the cause all season. If we'd followed the rules the Johnson sale would have been setting us up for this season and next, not being used as a desperate excuse to avoid a points penalty.

The clubs senior management are totally responsible for putting the club's future at risk and even if they get away with it then it isn't a justifiable approach to running the club.

Abso-f***ing-lutely.

If we stay up, people will say it was 'worth it'. But it's the equivalent of me going to spunk my mortgage money on a 3 legged 100/1 shot and then claiming it to be a stroke of genius and a justified move if it comes off.

Is this just a "I would have only made good signings" post or would you have crunched the numbers Dec 31st 2023, decided we couldn't sign anybody during the next window and got us relegated last season instead ?
I'd have had a proper transfer budget and strategy, saving some for January incase we needed it.

It's quite straightforward, there's financial rules we have to meet and you make sure you meet them.

You could argue we only had 1 month of advantage (playing BJ through Sept)

The £47M being wrapped up in a 3 year rolling compliance window
If you make a loss greatet than £35 in the 22/23 season, the entire season is your sporting advtange .

If I was in charge they'd have found me in a crackhouse in Sneinton rambling to some stranger about the conspiracy to see us relegated.

If we’re dealing with facts then we need the sharpest minds, it we‘re planning to just argue the toss there’s few more qualified than my ex-wife, she’d batter’em,

I'd be confident we’d be awarded a champions league place as a goodwill gesture on top.

She sounds the ideal character to deal with the Premier League, get her singed.

What's her hourly rate? (in a legal capacity, obvs)
