Financial Fair Play (FFP)

I'm feeling another loophole coming on. I've not figured out what yet but £21M share injection to the women's side appears like there is one.

Heard we are registering a pre-op 'Emmanuelle Denise' for the ladies side. Solid business.

I don't think the EPL were every happy with our approach on the Johnson transfer. In their eyes (and most peoples), it always represented a breach, but we relied on it as mitigation in the hope of a softer penalty.
If they did the sensible thing, in everyone’s eyes, and realigned the time period with the transfer window, then clubs wouldn’t be forced into choosing between meeting the rules and doing the best thing for sustainability.

That wouldn't have the effect you think it will. It will just shift costs around and lengthen the deadline for having to sell players to meet PSR, which would just keep the transfer price down for the full window.

The current PSR period fits in with when the vast majority of player contracts end / renew, which is, in effect, the year end for clubs. It is only a problem for clubs struggling to meet PSR, but then any date would be.

with respect, I disagree. If clubs want to get their man, as Spurs did with Johnson, they’ll find a few more quid to get it done on the last day of the window.
If the PSR period isn’t the one to move, the transfer window should. Even before PSR it has always seemed stupid that clubs start a season with a squad that can look vastly different when the transfer window closes.

Forest need to be signing Chelsea‘s Finance Department, never mind any of their players.

Call them what you want, the rules are ****. They're neither fair or about profit/sustainability, rather are specifically designed to protect the interests of established PL clubs and maintain the status quo by creating barrier to entry, all as a convenient by-product of supposedly protecting clubs.

We did know all about them when we joined the PL though and the Johnson defence was based on a blag that was always unlikely to work. Better to learn the lessons, take the medicine in having to sell a top player to meet this year's deadline and ensure the same failures of basic governance that first caused the issue aren't repeated.

In fairness, I would hate our club to be ran like Chelsea. That’s a mess.

Would should be able to manage our financial incomings/outgoings without any kind of underhanded crap, we hardly have a massively complex revenue/expendtiure position.

Agree. I think one of Cooper's issues last season was having half a new team waiting to be picked immediately after a brilliant performance away at Chelsea.

Instead of low balling on 30th June they would just do the same on 31st August so the few more quid comes from a much lower base. It is a buyers market if they know the seller must sell. In the meantime any clubs sailing close to the wind on PSR would be avoiding spending much in case they can't make sales in time so the transfer market would be surpressed.

Totally agree with you on transfer window dates, either finish them before start of season or go back to the old system of not having them. I suppose the problem there is start of season being on different dates everywhere, even domestically.

Hilariously, the Price of Football podcast is saying the Premier League forecasts it will spend up to £28M this year on lawyers fees to prosecute it's own members for PSR breeches and other cases.
28 million!? That’s ridiculous. I hope proper checks are done on Premier League employees to ensure none have vested interests in any law firms being used.

I have read somewhere that when Mareska left Leicester for Chelsea they received £10 million compensation from Chelsea which according to the piece will offset Leicester failing FFP even though the real figure is £50 million.

That isn’t how it works, they would still need 40m

Swiss Ramble - posted a new article about Clubs that need to sell before 30th June
Aston Villa need £58.3m in Profit - Looks like Douglas Luiz will leave and possibly Duran
Chelsea need £141.2m in Profit - But seemingly have a Property sale somewhere.
Everton are on the line, may need to sell a player
Leicester need £56.9m in Profit, I think they will struggle to find that
Newcastle need £43.7m in Profit - So there fans keep saying MGW is a top target but they are in a worse position than us
Nottingham Forest need £27.9m in profit but that only includes Mangala loan fee and Forest have already factored in the sale so around £20m is the real figure.
Wolves and Southampton should just be fine.

The actual figures are:

Chelsea - £58m
Everton - £22m
Leicester - £55m
Newcastle - £13m
Forest - £33m

Quick question but does anyone know if any of our players at Euro 24 are available for sale (not that we have many) was just wondering - more specifically if the Mangala and Freuler loans are done deals for sales (I thought the clause has been met for Freuler to be a perm deal and he'd be sold for 3.4m) and if they'd count towards FFP calcs

You'd have to alter the transfer window. If you changed the PSR period to after the window closed (ie Sep-Aug), then we wouldn't have been able to sign anyone in the summer we got promoted.
