The UK and Ireland have submitted a joint-bid for the Euro 2028 championship; here are the 14 proposed stadi:

I believe it wouldn't be considered, due to it's current capacity....

Uefa announced last year any bid would require one stadium of at least 60,000 capacity, one or two of at least 50,000 capacity, four of at least 40,000 capacity and three of at least 30,000 capacity.

Whilst the WFCG's Capacity is officially listed as 30,445, in reality it's less than the required 30k due to seats which have to remain vacant to ensure segregation. Also, a bid isn't allowed to include 'future planned works', including capacity upgrades.

There's no way the CG passes the sort of stringent health and safety tests you need these days for a tournament either. To be honest I'm surprised Villa Park or Old Trafford would either.

Let's be honest, there's at least a dozen stadiums across the country with better facilities to host an event like this. If not twenty.

Technically we only hosted it because of no other countries ability to do so at the time, and the stadiums were empty until the semi & final.

I don't think that will make an impact.

Went round Croke Park when the Booksellers Assn held a conference in Dublin in the 1990s. Superb stadium, I'm sure has been made even better in the intervening years.

Actually, I really only went to the conference because we had a gala dinner in the Guinness Brewery but enjoyed my visit immensely.

I know WFCG, Hillsborough and Elland Road are all a bit old and need some work to bring them into the 21st Century, but Villa Park's barely any better. So the combined population of the East Midlands and Yorkshire of about 10m people don't have a stadium, but the 2.5m of the North East have 2? Grrrrrr

2 in Dublin and 3 in London as well.

No good reason why they couldn't just have one stadium per city and spread it around a bit more.

Doubt we'll win the bid for Euro 2028 anyway, but the choice of stadiums is crap and leaves a lot of areas of the UK unrepresented.

I would imagine those piling money into the bid would like to have a chance of winning that very bid.

In which case showing the decision makers round the Etihad, Old Trafford, Tottenham, etc might be preferable to trying to explain away the Peter Taylor stand.

Aside from that, it’s all about the people who put the money in (sponsors), so corporate facilities are paramount these days, and what we’ve got is not very good.

The only things we’ve got going for us in debates like this these days are an airport and a train station.

As a slight aside its mental how many huge stadiums London has. It's probably the only city on the planet that could host a World Cup on its own, especially if you included the likes of Twickenham too.

For me that’s the fault of the regions not the authority picking them. If the council weren’t so ponderous in our planning permission we could have been one of the grounds.

Currently, you're right that those stadiums aren't in great nick, and it's due to the fortunes of those clubs over the last 2 decades. But for the 2018 bid Nottingham was picked and we were going to have a new stadium built had that been successful. Obviously that never happened (I'm glad we stayed BTW) because we were cheated out of that World Cup bid but the foresight was there. Leicester have just announced they're having a stadium capacity increase, we are and Leeds are trying to get Elland Road up to 55,000 (not sure how long that will take). Maybe with it being a Euros they don't have the time to bid with potential stadiums and improved stadiums (Everton aside) but it feels very unfair and unrepresentative of a big middle section of the country missing out (almost a 5th of the population of England).

I find the whole shared bid with 4 other countries very bizarre anyway. Does that mean the 4 home nations and Ireland all qualify automatically? Surely that's not going to go down well with the rest of Europe. England has the stadiums to host any tournament on its own (London probably could on its own if the Rugby lot let us use Twickenham). I could understand throwing Scotland or Wales a bone, but not both. And not Northern Ireland and Ireland too.

Newcastle and Sunderland having a stadium each is what's really grinding my gears though.

Given that Nottingham had already been chosen as a prospective host-city by the FA, it shouldn't be forgotten that had England been awarded the 2018 WC instead of Russia, we'd now be playing in a modern stadium at Eastside Rzar. For that reason it's reasonable to assume we could have been chosen to host in 2028?

I was wondering about this the other day. Surely it's a stumbling block to the bid being successful? I can't see UEFA allowing a fifth of the competing teams to qualify automatically.
