Wanted a 6'3+ destroyer to come in in the window to replace Sangare but I'd be onboard with Luiz. Just adds another level of quality.

He’d hopefully help eliminate the sloppiness we sometimes still have in possession.

Don't think there's any hard and fast rule is there? It's up to the two clubs to work out the finances - as long as the player gets what he's due in his contract ultimately.
True, though clubs often pay a fee for the loan itself as well as to cover wages. We didn't get a 10 million loan fee for Mangala for example to cover his wages.

(And while I know that was a deal structured that way because they were buying him, there are countless examples of paying a few for a loan).

I love the prospect of this. He fits us perfectly as other posters have pointed out and he's pretty experienced now. Seems like a good character too, seems like leaving Villa wasn't really his choice and was necessitated by PSR.

I don't think he necessarily has to displace one of our current roster in the middle either, there's been a lot of rotation in there already - be that forced or to maintain freshness - and to each of their credit no matter who has been in there they have worked out quickly how to play together and form a partnership.

Luiz would definitely become a starter but its a long season and a brutal position to play, injuries and suspensions will mount so will absolutely need your Yates', Danilo's and Dominguez's in that squad to keep it fresh and start some games.

Someone mentioned David Luiz (yes, that one) being linked to Olympiacos the other day, he is part of the same agency as Douglas Luiz - this definitely looks concrete to me.

So Joorabchian isn't actually Douglas Luiz's agent, he acts as a broker for his agency Bertolucci sports.

As it stands we’ve been in the top 4 for a while and if we beat Liverpool again we’re challenging for the title, I don’t think paying one player 135 grand a week until May is going to be an issue.

He’s a quality player and would give us a better chance of staying in the top four and being a Champions League side next season.

Creeping ever closer....thinking this will happen now.

We're getting pretty good at this transfers game after a rocky start.

If we sign him, plus a late grab for a striker whilst tieing some current players down to longer contracts it'd have been an amazing window.

JWP is on a reported £115k pw... end that loan and it's not such a big leap and DL feels a much better fit that would really add even greater depth, solidity and competition in there. For me, if it is doable, it's almost a no-brainer.
Apparently there’s no recall clause for JWP back to WHU, and he’s already played for them, so can’t be loaned out to another EPL team. Unless Potter wants him back, it’s not that simple

Yep as time passes the thought of this move just gets better. Loan with obligation would be great. And let’s remember I think Juve only agreed a net outlay of around 21m for him as they had offsetting deals with other players going to Villa.

For me this move shows great vision on recruitment. It’s not about desperate need, it’s about having the chance to add premier quality that makes the squad so much stronger.
