First Team Squad
Agree re. the England squad. I thought Bellingham would become the best 8 in the world, but turns out he's a 10 vying with the likes of Foden and - now - Palmer.Ideally we'd play 4321 with the 2 wide, but that means no AM so where would MGW fit, which was the very problem Coops failed to solve. I'd try him a little deeper, especially if he still wants a shot at playing for England.
I think MGW has the tools to play as an 8: hardworking; tenacious; agile. And when he was playing in the Championship his aerial stats were surprisingly excellent. He undoubtedly has the control, vision and passing range, but might have to temper the flicks (which might dilute his game ...?). That said, he's been playing as a deep lying midfielder for most of his time with us as we've played such a low block for ... what 60-70% of our PL games?
Definitely wasted on the wing, though. Just doesn't have the turn of pace to beat someone on the outside.
Wonderful player. Don't know if anyone can suggest any central midfielders with similar abilities who might provide a comparison, if he were to play a deeper role? Just rambling ... I think he could play in central midfield, but he seems such a natural in the 10 role ...
