Nigeria actually have an embarrassment of riches up front so I can't see Taiwo getting 2 x 90 mins but I suppose any competitive game time is good.

My worry is that the second game is away to Rwanda and without wanting to just stereotype here I can't imagine the surface at whichever ground they play at to be particularly helpful when you're struggling for fitness.

The impression I always seem to get when it comes to international breaks is that having players leave to play games in Africa seems much more risky based on the condition they seem to come back in, than any other continent.
Add to that that they seem happy to take them/give game time when deemed not fully fit by their clubs.

Yeah I can't say I have full confidence that Sangare, Taiwo, Boly or Aina will be properly looked after at all there.

Put it this way I'm more comfortable with Wood going to play international football in California next week or even going back home to NZ than I am with these lads going to African nations to play.

With only naming 24 players (over 21) in our squad, are we still able to add a free agent between now and January ?

Played footy on the park with my 2 boys earlier. Curled a couple into the top corner, one delightful finish off the cross bar!

When I took a shot on, I was saying "I'm Callum Hudson Odoi", then "I'm Elanga", then "I'm Morgan Gibbs white", then "I'm Dominguez", "Elliot Anderson"... "I'm Milenkovic" (when I had to a spot of defending against a tricky 6 year old), "I'm Chris wood", then "I'm Murillo", "I'm Yatesy" etc etc ....

Then I was Matt Selz when I went in net. And nothing got past me, saved everything.

Made me realise how many quality players we have. We've built a good squad a

So lots of people have been moaning about the quality of our subs.

Let's look objectively at it and see where we really are compared to everyone else.

This is a slightly weird table of sub impact (by manager, instead of by club for some reason).
We're 7th for sub goals, about 8th-9th for goals+assists.
That puts us about where we should be in terms of squad quality tbh. We're overperforming in terms of our position in the table, as we are compare with basically every metric.

Obviously a fantastic season so no need for mass changes but still some areas of concern, and also the depth of the squad

Back five: will 100% take the current five again for next year, but need better back ups.

Defensive midfield: Depends if Sangare is really the man. Yates can do a job coming on the last twenty but we may need an upgrade

Attacking midfield: Biggest question with the squad is MGW will go or not, but keep Anderson even though he tired so much at the end of the season. Are Dominguez, and Danillo, really at the level we need.

Overall midfield: lacked the goals and assists needed and needs addressing

Wide midfield: when they are fit Elanga and CHO work, but Jota and Sosa are not high enough quality as replacements

Striker: Can Wood repeat?, or if not what else. I think big T perhaps was leaving before the injury, so do we get a new number one, or someone younger who takes over as a number one in 12 months time.

Key areas for me are:

1) Replace MGW or Murillo if they leave on a like-for-like basis.
2) We need at least another two players who can play out wide, up front or a mixture of both, who will be starting 11 players.
3) Not being talked about, but I think we need a left-footed, overlapping left back. We don't provide any attacking threat from our full backs at the moment as Aina isn't particularly attacking by modern standards and Neco as a right footer cuts inside when in advanced areas. Having that left footed options just opens up the ability to change our structure so much more.

Dominguez is at our Level, he does his job well, no he isn't a winger but he does a lot that not many will not notice.

Danillo a luxury let's see, great pre season then the ankle.

Are we not in Europe? Extra games regardless of what cup.

Obviously if we get offered silly money yes, but to dismiss them as not good enough..wow.

We need goals. Our drop off resulted from us not scoring enough, defensively we weren't as amazing as we had been but we weren't bad. Our midfield didn't create enough and our forward wasn't as clinical as he had been (hardly a surprise).

The final game summed it up: best chances created by Aina and Sels, nothing from Elanga and MGW, and CHO when he came on.

I can't see beyond a striker being our biggest priority, aside from a replacement for MGW or Murillo leaving. Though I'd not necessarily expect a direct replacement for MGW as Nuno has a history of not playing with a number 10.

Yep, this has to be the priority now. Wood has proven he knows where the goal is but he is only as good as the service he gets.

He's done amazingly well to convert the relatively few chances he's had but the end of the season has shown that if he's not on top form we really struggle for goals.

We need more players that are going to actually worry the opposition. If I'm a full back I'm ecstatic if I see Dominguez, Sosa or Jota lining up against me.

I don’t think we need a major overhaul. Just improving the quality of the bench so Nuno can share the workload more. Assuming MGW is the only significant departure, I think the priorities are:

- Central striker
- 2x wide forwards who can also play centrally
- Left footed full back
- Creative attacking midfielder

Probably a few other back up spots to replace likely/potential outgoings (Toff, Moreno, Boly, Sosa?).

Not sure what they do with Taiwo. He seems to need regular games to be effective so a back up role won’t work. But we’re unlikely to get an offer large enough to cover his unammortised transfer cost (c£7m by now). Possibly a loan?

In an ideal world, we have the same sort of window we had last year where we did lose some first teamers but no one critical. We lost Niakhite but signed Milenkovic. We lost Mangala but signed Anderson.

I look at the likes of Taiwo, Morato, Danilo, Jota and Sosa as being those kinds of outgoings this summer. Where they are around the first team squad but they're not critical components. Can't see da Silva and Miguel staying.

You'd want to keep Sels, Aina, Milenkovic, Neco, Murillo, Gibbs-White, Elanga, Wood as they are critical components.

I think Callum will stay, but I think next summer we'll likely lose him for nothing. He only has a year left but the structure of the deal with Chelsea means that financially, it's probably not viable to sell because you'd actually probably only get a third of what you'd need to replace him. Him having one more season here, then going someone as a free and raking in the wages works for everyone I think.

We had 23 players listed in squad after Christmas, aged 21+

We’d be stupid to carry less than 25

6 out from that list of 23 players with 8 new additions in is my guess…at least.

We need 4-6 players that can play out through the season that would be indispensable for clubs below us

At a basic level
We need 4 forwards at a minimum

Easy. He signs for Oly on a free next summer on a one year contract, they loan him back to Forest and then we re-sign him the following summer. Bye bye Chelsea clause.

A note for player registration for the Conference League, for those who might think "let's buy young Brazilians for List B of the European squad", a reminder that, in order to be eligible for List B a player does not only need to be born after January 1, 2004, but he also needs to have "been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years, or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year". So, basically List B means academy players, not young players in general. In other words, if you don't manage to have the four academy graduates in the 25-man squad of List A, you can't make up that number through list B.
