Carlos Miguel Ribeiro Dias - Cafú

Heffing Psycho!

I'd be surprised if it was that simple to be honest. I could be wrong, but I'm sure even the buffoons at the EFL wouldn't allow that.

I don't know a great deal about it but isn't it the same thing Juve and Barca did with Arthur and Pjanic earlier this summer? I remember some FFP trickery going on there.

If it is some brilliant FFP loophole the club has exploited then fair play. Such a thing would be the only way I'd see Forest benefiting from such a deal.

Well, first we had the Carvalho saga (a "done deal" for two or three transfer windows), then we had the Ribeiro saga (which has resurfaced despite the semi-official denial from our part), and there's always the Silva saga, the (slightly) more realistic one. Let me explain "slightly".

From your point of view, Colback, Arter and Freeman are in theory starters, and then there's Yates, Bachirou, Sow, Carvalho, Johnson, and Silva. Even if Carvalho and Johnson go, I don't know if this leaves much room for Silva. He's most certainly not to be counted as a starter, but I'm not convinced he's considered suprlus.

From our point of view, things are somehat more fluid. Our starters in theory will be M'Vila in front of the defence, Pêpê and Camara, when we play 4-3-3, M'Vila, Camara and Fortounis when we play 4-2-3-1. Behind them, in a 3-men midfield, are Bouchalakis and Cafú (there are also a couple of youngsters but they will probably not be considered anything other than an emergency solution). If you trust the Greek press, Silva is a done deal, but will only come if Camara is sold. The problem with this theory is that Silva (whom I like) would be a massive downgrade from Camara, whose astonishing athleticism is a major asset, especially in the Champions League. Silva's workmanship cannot make up for his tiny feet, which do not allow him to press and steal the ball like Camara does. In any case, it is unlikely that Camara will be sold in this window. If he is not, Cafú (who already struggles to find playing time) will probably go, and will be short in numbers. Silva would be a great upgrade on Cafú, but I doubt he will relish the idea of being the fifth midfielder, behind Bouchalakis in the pecking order.

Therefore, despite the unanimity in the Greek press, I find the "Silva to Oly" saga as unlikely as the "Carvalho to Oly" one. On the other hand, my rational analyses tend to be disproved in the last day of the transfer windows, so you can safely ignore them.

Let me quote myself in shame that I was disproven once again. :p

So, it's my scenario b: Silva instead of Cafú for us. The twist of the plot was Cafú going to you.

You talked a lot about the logistics of the swap. I'm sure only Vrentzos and Souloukou (our female version of Vrentzos) understand the details. I remain firm in my belief that deals between the two clubs are not harming the accounts of either; not on a one-to-one basis perhaps, but as a whole. Perhaps you got the wrong end of the stick in this one, but you "owed" us from a previous deal (I remind you that we theoretically "bought" Soudani, almost for the price you bought him), I don't know.

My problem is not the logistics, but the fact that it's an accountants' deal, not a deal done with strictly football criteria. Your (current) manager did not rate Silva for what he wanted to do this season; fine. Couldn't he be sold for a (small) profit? Cafú was most definitely suprlus to requirements in this season's midfield; fine. Couldn't he be loaned out with an option to buy elsewhere? Does Olympiacos really need Silva? Does Forest really need Cafú? Silva will be fifth in the pecking order behind Bouchalakis, Cafú will be sixth in the pecking order of your midfield.

The deal may involve some sort of creative accounting work, but from the strictly football point of view, it's a bit lazy for my taste.

A word on Cafú as a player. In a sense, he fell victim to the continued confidence of all managers of Olympiacos to Bouchalakis, and to the great success of our midfield last season. Cafú did not play much, because Guilherme, Camara and Bouchalakis were excellent, collaborated with their eyes closed and the manager trusted them blindly.

This does not mean that Cafú is a bad player. The only football criterion I can find for the swap is that Silva's physical attributes are more compatible with the Greek league than with the Championship, and Cafú's attributes vice versa. The Brazilian is a very strong lad, who likes a challenge, passes the ball accurately albeit not very creatively, and is not slow at all.

On the downside, he seemed to huff, to puff and to produce little end result, either in defence or in attack.

If we sign him, I will call him Yatesinho

It's Baggio

Makes sense this.

We have an excess of around 9/10 players in the squad, we are overloaded with central midfielders, we lack pace, goals, creativity. I suppose it suits Olympiakos though...

So basically, the shite in Oly’s bomb squad gets sold to us, and in return we lose a good player?

For probably the tenth time today, f*** off olympiakos

Nottingham's dirty secret
This is the EXACT type of player we do not need. In fact, if you typed all of the attributes that we need the least into a super computer this fella's name would pop up.

What the actual f*** are we up to?

It's like a weird Defensive Midfield spread bet.

Probably a financial deal rather than a squad improvement deal.

Praise the Lord. We need another defensive midfielder to stop leaking all these goals. Being from warmer climes he knows how to slow down the English game to suit our snail paced players which can only benefit us. Rain winds frost and snow won’t be a problem if he gets his leggings and gloves on.

What on earth is that defender doing there?

Last man, I think I’ll dribble horizontally across the pitch and get tackled.....

Late in the game, they were exhausted and losing. Legs and mind gone.

Probably the least anticipated signing in recent memory. Will he even play a game for us?
