Decent player, depends what a "big offer" means though as he's quite similar to Mangala in the way he plays. Maybe slightly more dynamic but less calm on the ball/at finding a pass - but nowhere near as dynamic as say Danilo.

So, we don't "need" him - we're well stocked for that sort of midfielder, but he's only 20 and could be a long term prospect, but there's no point paying big big money for him. Anything larger than seven figures is not worth it for us, and even that is pushing it.

at 20, young and english, and still learning , and boro in the championship can't be demanding excessive amount for him.

That's precisely why teams can demand big money.

See Brennan Johnson last year, we rejected £20m+ in the Championship.
difference is johno proved himself at league 1, then prove himself in the championship, this lad went on loan at scunthorpe , was unremarkable and the team was relegated to non league , came back and was not picked by wilder until boro changed manager. very different situation , i can't imagine boro demanding 20 million after less than 1 season.

I’ve seen him live thrice this season and he’s really good - literally ran the show for Boro. He’s got one more U21 year in him too. I said elsewhere that we could swap Shelvey for him but it’s probably bollocks anyway.

But yes, absolutely would have him, especially as he’d be a free squad space.

Get him in.

Wouldn't count against the squad numbers and has genuine start potential.

Not seen him live but on the box and I like him a lot.

Glides through midfield, can pick a pass, gets stuck in and is big. Reminds me a bit of Ross Barkley when he first came on the scene or even a similar skill set to Jude Bellingham. (Not comparing level before anyone jumps on that).

I would suspect it was what we were hoping to get from Lewis O’Brien but he didn’t have the physicality we ended up requiring. On that note I could see him potentially being a makeweight in any potential deal

Knocked back again. Boro want upwards of £30m, player wants to see the job out there this season anyway.
They'd agreed to sell him to Ipswich for £20m in August which he knocked back the move, honestly he is a good player but there is no motivation for him to move now. Its like us cashing in on Brennan when we looked like we could challenge for promotion.

If they end up not going up then it could be the case that the old PSR need comes into play for them but unless there has been a signal that there is a possibility of this happening (He did change agents recently) then it seems odd to try and get this one over the line on the day before then the last few hours of the transfer window.

I've no doubt he does want to do that rather than more-than-double his wages within a matter of hours. As with most players, saying he'd rather stay is just a case of currying favour with 'Boro fans if a transfer doesn't happen.

I personally favour trying for players who have a proven Championship record over a number of seasons such as this lad.

Sounds like a non-league team

Would be surprised if the player isnt pushing for it. Much higher wage and Prem football...if he's not I'd question his character a bit.

At 23 years old there's no need for him to force a move, unless he gets an unfortunate injury he'll have enough options to consider in the summer. Either way he'll be playing premier league football on a fat premier league contract next season

At his home town club who are in a strong position for promotion, fair play to him for wanting to stay. He knows full well he’ll either get a big move in the summer or a big pay rise if they go up.
Unless he has a serious injury of course. It must cross the mind of players surely.
