Apparently no holders have ever got past the round of 16 in this weird tournament.
I still don't get why we still have to play with 6 players at it. Even in L1 when we had 3 call ups at any level the game was off.

I don’t t need to. He’s f***ing massive and he saved none despite going the right way on a few. It was shocking.

He should have saved at least one of them, but thought it was a good idea to wait a whole second after each kick had been taken before shifting his arse.

Being big as a keeper isn't necessarily conducive to penalty saving. Pantilimon let a load in.

Get him on a flight to EMA in time for tomorrow 🤣

Don't worry, Mazza will have Mendy booked into Business Class Premium.

Hosts Ivory Coast through to a quarterfinal against Mail or Burkina Faso… despite being on the brink of elimination in the group stage.

That’s a bonkers hoodoo - (massive if true) given it’s biennial and has been going since 1967.

Did the ref not give a corner and book someone else who was protesting for the pen?

Either way, garbage refereeing.
I think that it was for dissent so can’t/won’t be rescinded. Seems a bit harsh on the lad who is now apparently suspended for the quarters. Ref was properly trigger happy

I thought he booked the striker for diving but I didn't see him take it away after he changed his decision.
The ref lost the plot big time

To add just one more shock in this tournament full of surprises, South Africa beat Morocco!

So the quaterfinalists are: Nigeria, Angola, Cape Verde, South Africa, DR Congo, Guinea, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire.

Meanwhile 2021's quaterfinalists were: Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Cameroon, Egypt, Morocco.

ALL countries replaced! What a tournament!!

Just goes to show how competitive the African football scene is.

I'm glad a record number of African teams will qualify for World Cup 2026. Perfect timing.

Friday will see a duel of VfB team-mates, as Serhou Guirassy‘s Guinea take on Silas and the Democratic Republic of Congo!

Some of these games have been ace, some fearless attacking play, and genuinely entertaining.

Sangare dropped by the looks of it. Was kinda hoping to see what this guy looks like when he’s thriving.

Hasn't Sangare been rested because his shin has a big swelling on it following that awful tackle in an earleir game?
Now we have flogged Mangala, Sangare has to come good.
He must be being rested as with all due respect to Hull City, their midfielder is obviously not as good Sangare. Sangare will be fine and come good.
