I can only assume that you're relatively new to this thread mate? So, what do we want our future to be ? A run of the mill premier league club playing in a moderately small stadium in a lovely setting ? Or a club with a chance of challenging for honours in a much larger stadium and the infrastructure to enable the funds to support it ? With the PSR rules changing o the UEFA model this is the choice the club have to address. My view has changed recently and after my 60+ years at the old girl(WFCG) regrettably it is time to move on. Hopefully not Toton though but somewhere closer to the city.......your thoughts ?
Bloody hell mate, remind me not to call on you in the trenches ffs.Getting ready for the Championship
No, very much an observer though. I raise my points as the goalpost seemed to have greatly moved on the psr issue recently. Thus my question on reappraiseing people's thoughts on sticking or movingI can only assume that you're relatively new to this thread mate?
By "decision making" do you mean whether or not to just give in and meet the city council's rent demand?I've just seen the new floodlights at the TE/PT corner. That will no doubt remain until the stand is rebuilt/if the stand is rebuilt.
There's a lot of money being spent at the WFCG that's for sure. To get a return on what is being invested looks difficult to me, unless it is planned to be for a longer term than was anticipated.
As with the PSR debacle, it raises a question mark over the decision making process at the top of the club.
I noticed that the Rushcliffe planning portal stated yesterday that it's "decision pending" on the container corners. That development will go ahead I have no doubt about that, but they are spending a lot for a relatively small gain.
There are many variables. The terms of a new lease are one, not just the annual cost but the length of the lease. Then, the likelihood of being able to improve the stadium, due to planning constraints and construction costs, is another. The decision making cannot be short term and driven by emotion. I'm still waiting to see the plans that Chairman Tom gave sight of to Danny Taylor recently, according to Danny Taylor.By "decision making" do you mean whether or not to just give in and meet the city council's rent demand?
Stupid? No. Stubborn? Yes.I’m pretty sure Marinarkis isn’t stupid so all this is just posturing..
As far as the stadium redevelopment is concerned, there's possibly an argument that he's been fairly patient over the last 5-years, given that the planning-process took up much of that period. I doubt he's being any more stubborn over the lease issue than the city council.Stupid? No. Stubborn? Yes.
The fact is, at the point that staying at the City Ground and not getting what he needs, when he needs it, begins to hold him back from those ambitions of his, the history of the unique location and all that was achieved there will be binned off as quickly as Brazil, Cooper, Murphy...etc...
Since we're answering this in 2024, I'll take the run of the mill premierleague club playing in a moderately small stadium in a lovely setting over the other, because the reality is, we could go through the whole business of building a new stadium and moving and still be more or less exactly where we are.So, what do we want our future to be ? Yes, fu.ck it. As a club and as a fanbase we should stop getting ideas above our station and should know our place.Since we're answering this in 2024, I'll take the run of the mill premierleague club playing in a moderately small stadium in a lovely setting over the other, because the reality is, we could go through the whole business of building a new stadium and moving and still be more or less exactly where we are.
We need to eliminate these delusions of grandeur at the club of what is possible. Yes, West Ham won an European trophy last year. Yes, Brighton and Villa have been in Europe this year. But, the Premierleague created their own Superleague and no one realised.
You know how many times in the last 20 years a none current top six team has won the League Cup? 3.
You know how many times in the last 20 years a none current top six team has won the FA Cup? 3.
You know how many times in the last 20 years a none current top six team has won a Premierleague? 1.
You know how many times in the last 20 years a none current top six team has won a European competition? 1.
You could argue teams have got to finals, but no one remembers a runner up.
The last time we had consecutive, consistent top six finishes was like, 1988.
Saying that, in our current stadium, we have in the past three seasons, gotten a bollock hair away from an FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley against the Scousers and got into the League Cup Semi-Finals against YANITED.
If we'd actually recruited well this summer, we probably would have been comfortably and boringly mid-table which for a club like us, would probably be our best lot in the football pyramid. I certainly wouldn't want to throw away a significant part of our history chasing an unrealistic fantasy and the illusion of success when it's clear there is a massive gap between the top six and the rest.
That is not forgetting that Newcastle have a massive stadium, the richest owners in World Football and they like us, have to sell to buy.
The joint 3rd most successful English club in Europe?Yes, fu.ck it. As a club and as a fanbase we should stop getting ideas above our station and know our place.

Indeed, fu.ck all of this ambition nonsense.This.
The top 6 is effectively a closed shop. Unless the Sky Sports Six all bugger off to a European Super League, we aren't going to break into the top six (nor is anyone else likely to for more than a season at most).
Whether we stay at the City Ground or move elsewhere, our ceiling is the same; midtable in the Premier League with the possibility of a good cup run or a crack at the Europa Conference League (like West Ham have done) if we are doing really well.
Moving away from the City Ground to a 50k+ stadium (that will have thousands of empty seats most weeks, other than when we play the Sky Sports Six) won't be the difference maker some people think it would be.
Just being realistic. It is a closed shop. It doesn't matter what Forest (or any other non-Sky Sports Six club for that matter) do, that isn't changing any time soon.Indeed, fu.ck all of this ambition nonsense.
So, genuine question mate. Ignoring EM's ambitions, as a fanbase what do you think we should settle for?Just being realistic. It is a closed shop. It doesn't matter what Forest (or any other non-Sky Sports Six club for that matter) do, that isn't changing any time soon.
Well given that we have spent around that same amount of time in the top flight as we have the second division, I guess maintaining ourselves in the top flight should be the aim and any season where we stay in the top flight should be considered a success. So, genuine question mate. Ignoring EM's ambitions, as a fanbase what do you think we should settle for?
Say, top end Championship?
High enough to see a decent number of wins every season, but not so many that we might risk promotion. I know that was the peak of Nigel Doughty's ambition, and look where we eventually ended up.
As a provincial club an expanded 40k City Ground would serve our needs just fine though. I don't think moving away from the City Ground for the sake of about 10k more seats than the current plans (most of which won't get filled most weeks besides when the tourists come to watch the Sky Sports Six play us) is going to be a big difference maker, and would likely see us lose much of our identity in the process.Na. Regardless of statistics and predictions about what would happen to our league position if we move…. It’s fundamentally negative to suggest Forest should aim so low because that’s just the way shit goes in the prem.
We’ve got no right to say to our kids.. sorry lads, us old f***ers love our City Ground so much you and you’ll learn to love it too!
Get f***ing moving Forest. I’m bored to the tits with our bullshit and so is EM.
Spend £32m on a new flight of stairs that don't go anywhere.Hope someone can help, ive been trying to jump to the moon and so far its going really well, i can now jump 4 of my stairs in one go, but i think my technique might be sub optimal. Im ambitious and determined so i dont want to settle for 4 steps. any advice ?
I can see this escalating.Spend £32m on a new flight of stairs that don't go anywhere.
