Does anyone remember League 1 Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

Another one jumps ship

How many have actually decided to stay?
I mean two young out of contract seem to have renewed but of their senior players although still possible some might renew if terms are right:

Byrne, Bielik, Bird, Knight, Sibley, Stretton.

Of course all new signings, maybe renewals too must fit within the constraints of the EFL Business Plan.

The players they are being linked with are embarrassing. McGoldrick this morning.

Although that's all that's left in the bargain basement bin. You would have thought they would be a bit more prepared than just googling "BEST CHAMPIONSHIP FREE TRANSFERS"

Surprised Barkhuizen has lowered himself to go to the sheep dip. Always thought he was decent championship player. wonder what PNE fans think about that one. Same goes for Mcgoldrick if he goes.

Tom Barkhuizen showed promise a couple of seasons ago with his pace, but injury, form and then Covid really knocked him about…..it appears he may have got long covid, but I’m not sure.
PNE released him…fans not too bothered tbf.

It didn't take long as @Vikare said- although this meme makes a lot less sense than the original! Given where Derby are now vs where they were 3 years back.

One thing I would wonder- do Derby go to the EFL in advance of signings with their proposed deals and wages or do they sign and then go to the EFL for registration and approval or not as the case may be.
You would assume that the efl have set out a structure that they have to stick to, whether it’s a total monthly expenditure or a certain max per player?

or derby could just decide to do what they want again and then be all pissed off when they get their legs slapped.

Surely someone is keeping a close watch on them this time. Unless they are suffering from Boris syndrome it's f*** you we'll do as we like.

It really wouldn't surprise me if they try it on again.
Nor me, I’ll eat hay with a donkey if they don’t drop back to their old ways,

as a founder member of the football league don’t you know they aren’t governed like the rest,

I’d also add the EFL have enabled some of their behaviour not being strong enough originally.

soap box put back away ……. Apologies 😬

I think some of them are in for a shock.

I don't think Clowes is like Morris and I think they will abide by the EFL restrictions because they have to.

They have much to do in not much time and a lot will depend on whether whatever journeymen they can cobble together are up for it and gel as a team.

Odds are against that happening and I would not be surprised to see the idiots calling for Clowes to go before the end of the year.

He was always going back to L1 or L2 after he left PNE. So Derby is fairly straightforward move.

I like the use of the word “cobble” Erik, if you could have found space for “patched“ and “mishmash“ in your post it would have been better again 👍 it paints a picture in my mind of them playing in odd kit 🙂

The SCMP rules show that they can spend 60% of turnover on player wages.

Turnover is the usual measures but can also include player sales and probably relevant to the sheep owner donations/equity injections but not owner loans.

They will likely have maximum wages and terms of contract that they can offer (Think its £8k a week and 2 year contracts) but if they are able to include money injected in to the club then I imagine they still have a bigger budget than most in league 1.

Its quite galling because like others have mentioned, in my mind every spare penny should be paying debts/tax not signing new players.

If McGoldrick signs its probably because at his age £8k for 2 years is better than 1 year at say £12k.
