That's my take too. Danny could easily have sat on this until after the weekend, or longer if necessary. What's his motivation to release this at this point?
He's a sleeper agent. If we go down, we probably don't get the new ground. Doing this before the Chelsea game increases our chance of staying at the WFCG...

It tizwas it is
My take on this is actually the opposite as I said in my longer post. I looks to me like the club have asked Danny to release the article. He's sat on this for ages since he interviewed Tom Cartledge, I think the club wanted to get their market research out there and arrogantly believe that we're effectively already safe hence wanted it out there to gauge things ahead of the last home game. Say what you want about Danny Taylor but he's as much a fan as you or I and I don't personally think it'd be his choice to put the article out today unless the club pressed for it.
There is no way the club have controlled when this has been released, the Toton rumours have been swirling around for months. it’s been sat in for months and the journalist / athletic have purposely released it a few days before a crucial weekend. If the club where in control it would have been released after we where safe, hiding bad news in good.

The City Ground is an absolute shit hole and the club can’t be bothered to give it a good clean and a lick of paint but they expect me to believe they’ll be able to build a whole new ground?

No problem Mr Cartledge - just add my (our) 4 x season cards to the thousands of other committed, loyal fans who will not be seen anywhere near Toton.
Ah but the bastards have weaponised the "waiting list" and there are, apparently, 11000 people who will leap at the chance.

I know it is an unpopular opinion but I wouldn’t be totally against a new stadium as long as it was a brilliant design and in a good location. But this is an absolute clusterfuck of a location. I think it would actually have the effect of losing attendees. Especially long term.

Just to clarify (and so I don’t get on the wrong side with Wes and Eddie 😅) I still would rather have a re modified CG.

Let me get this right...

The CEO of a company that is CERTAIN to win the fair and open bidding and tendering process to build a the football club a new ground at tremendous profit...

...is the chairman of the football club who is actively fishing for the club to pay for a new ground.

Not sure, but I'm going to look up the definition of "total and utter conflict of interest" just to see what it says.

Hopefully Alf wins the new badge design comp anyway as we will have to have a new one to match the shiny new stadium.

Where exactly do you find the confidence that if the club were in control they would have released it after we were safe? Based on all their other actions over recent weeks and months I'd wager this is exactly the kind of thing the current leadership within the club would have gone and done...

I can understand the need for a new stadium. I don't like it, especially if the site the City Ground is on isn't viable, but I understand it.

Toton, though? What the f*** kind of idea is that? Any stadium not on the banks of the Trent is not Nottingham Forest's stadium. It's crucial that the board understands this.

I've had, on very good Authority, that the wishes and intention of our owner is to build a new stadium.
The way I received this news suggests that he thinks this is what the fanbase wants to hear and what we have been waiting for.
I will bet my bollocks to a barn dance that this piece is to test the reaction of the fanbase, so now would be a good to react.
I will not attend a match at Toton. My wife will not attend a match at Toton. The 3 people we go to games with will not attend a match at Toton. An old lad I speak to in the pub will not attend a match at Toton. I didn't tell anyone else about my conversation at the time so that is the a small sample size but the strength of feeling is abundantly clear and the reactions were filled with emotion so I reckon they will stand if tested. I know that others will take our places in the Premier League but we were all there in League 1 too.
I believe that Daniel Taylor reads this forum and I hope Danny, that you are being played unwittingly because otherwise you are being seduced by the promise of inside knowledge which would be you finished as a credible journalist.
Time for us all to stand up as fans and make our opinions heard.
I hope that everyone here knows me well enough to know that if I've written it, it's because it's either true as in this case because it came straight from a horse's mouth or that I believe it to be true because I trust the source.

At the risk of being labeled a heretic there's worse ideas than Toton.

Toton could work, but it would need:
1) A new transport hub built exactly where HS2 station was meant to be which included train and bus station.
2) Commitment from EMR or government (maybe enforce in agreement to allow Forest to build) that dedicated supporter trains would run.
3) A sports or entertainment "village" which would flank the stadium and the tram park and ride.
4) Road widening schemes, specifically for the A52 and B6003 (the latter of which might need to be made into a tunnel to allow pedestrianisation of the entire area to make #3 work.

And you're probably talking £300m+ to make all that work.
