Safe Standing

For everyone lucky enough to be in A block or Lower Bridgford, enjoy your freedom to stand.

For the rest of us, my goodness, they know how to (try to) kill an atmosphere.

All season in P Block (upper Clough) for example, we have had hassle from the Stewards, everyone ignores them but is just annoying.

Been given all sorts of reasons as to why:

Not enough room between seats, old stand design
(points to A block)

Some people cannot see
(EVERYONE is stood up and I get that is a self fulfilling prophecy but NOBODY seems upset by it)

Not heard safe standing mentioned much regarding the City Ground but is it something to be considered and if so, where assuming the appropriate idiots in charge approve its rollout.

Otherwise, will just become yet another Franchise FC.

You went in Upper clough and expected to stand? Bit daft as even before all seated stadia, it was a seated stand.

You not looked up at P block all season? From second half of last season, all of this season it has been standing from half way up, sometimes more.

For anyone without a season card, that is the only place with any real atmosphere seeing as A block and LB are Season card/Gold Member sell outs every game.

Of course there should be safe standing in some areas. But some people want to sit down so those people determined to stand wherever they may be to the detriment of all those around them are pretty selfish.

It's all about mid-table...
Anybody got a link to the seating plan of the the WFCG? With the rows and seats labelled (not just the sections).
Used to be one on Forest website when you were buying your ticket.

Think it's gone now.

So areas which organically become "standing" should be able to continue to do so if people buying in those areas know as such?

By the same token, I will not "stand" anywhere else as you know people in those areas prefer to sit.

But the question of safe standing specifically is a different one and if they did implement it, where should it go? Would they adjust the new Peter Taylor stand designs to accommodate it?

I'm sure your friends across at Murder Lane won't mind your standing in front of them in the Pavis Stand.

It’s been obvious all season that our home form due to the atmosphere/ backing we generate is a big weapon for us. With that in mind in a perfect world I’d love to see safe standing in the lower Trent end and at least lower Bridgeford if not the whole of the Bridgeford. Build the new stand and put away fans in either upper BC or upper Bridgeford.

Not got any seating plans for you, duck, but I have put this handy guide to the ground together for you so you can find your way around if you ever get to a game.

Just a note on the tree that you can see between the tifo display area and Megson stand: That's the tree on our club badge was made for and the reason that corner can't be filled in wi' more seats coz you'd not not be able to see it. And I once sat in F block and saw Marlon Harewood hit a . . . well, I don't know what it was, a cross or a shot . . . . but he hit a ball from the touchline near me and it nearly sailed all the way out between the gap and ended up in the tree.

I fully sympathise with wanting to stand, and with how stewards can be overzealous in enforcing it - I had an A Block Season ticket back when the club were at their most combative in trying to get us to sit down and so spent half of most matches playing that game (which given the shit that was on the pitch was no loss).

But the BC Upper is the exact wrong place to have that discussion. The rake is the steepest in the ground (I think - if not then it's damn close), so of course they're going to be stricter than they are in other areas. I like the idea that another area within the ground could organically turn into a "standing prefered" area that can help generate the atmosphere - but tbh the standing aspect is only ever going to be accepted in one of the lower tiers where the rakes are much shallower.

And yeah, hopefully when the Main Stand gets rebuilt, the club can put in a substantial amount of Safe Standing and get the noise coming from both sides of the dugouts. And when that's proven to be popular, put more and more in.

If they were to introduce safe standing in the Bridgford Upper I’d want a rebate on my season ticket. Old farts with bad backs and bad knees need a f***ing rest after all those bastard stairs. Plus the older you get the more you need to take a leak which means more f***ing stairs.

Had some of the best years of my life on the Trent End terrace, spent a fair few years in the Bridgford Lower, and accept I’ll have to stand at away games, but I now quite enjoy watching the game sat on my arse.

And anyway I think the WFCG has shown this season that you don’t have to stand up to sing loudly and generate an incredible atmosphere.

Just saying…

Safe standing should be in the lower tiers of the newly developed PT and Bridgford stands.

If there's even more demand for it thereafter then convert lower Trent.

Doesn't need to be anywhere else. Got to remember too that some parents choose to sit in lower tiers so their kids can get closer to the pitch to see players up close, so the more of the lower tiers you make standing the more that demographic of fan gets put off from going as the younguns can't see the game because 6'4 Dave is in the way.

Nottingham Forest is pleased to announce plans to introduce sections of safe standing within The City Ground, with work set to commence in the summer months in time for the start of the 2024/25 season.

Safe standing represents a significant step forward in enhancing the match day experience for fans while ensuring safety remains paramount. The introduction of safe standing areas will provide supporters with the choice to stand during matches, fostering the famous atmosphere and passion of The City Ground support.

The plans will accommodate approximately 2,300 safe standing spaces for home supporters in the Upper Bridgford Stand, Blocks U1 and U2, and Lower Bridgford Stand Block Z. Safe standing for away supporters will be located in the Lower Bridgford Stand Block W.

Safe standing offers numerous benefits for both fans and the Club, including:

• Enhanced Atmosphere: Safe standing promotes a loud and passionate atmosphere within the stadium, allowing fans to stand together and support their team without compromising their safety or the safety of others.

• Improved Visibility: The design and location of the safe standing areas will ensure that all supporters have an unobstructed view of the pitch, enhancing the overall match day experience for all.

• Flexibility: Safe standing areas provide greater flexibility for fans, allowing them to choose between seated or standing positions during matches based on personal preference.

• Safety and Security: Safe standing incorporates rigorously tested safety features, including rail seating and crowd management protocols, enhancing the well-being and safety of all those attending our matches.

The decision to introduce safe standing reflects Nottingham Forest's ongoing commitment to fan engagement. The topic was raised at the latest meeting of the recently-formed Fan Advisory Board, with the Club and fan groups, including Forza Garibaldi, presenting their views on the subject and discussing the merits of its introduction.

Nottingham Forest Chairman Tom Cartledge said: "By embracing safe standing, the club aims to not only to tackle the issue of persistent standing which has presented the Club with serious safety concerns in recent years, but also to enhance the stadium environment to celebrate the passionate support and dedication of our fans.

"This initiative underscores our dedication to providing the best possible match day experience for our fans whilst prioritising their safety and comfort. Safe standing represents an exciting development for Nottingham Forest, and we look forward to its introduction next season."

The installation of safe standing at The City Ground is scheduled to commence during the summer, with the work completed ahead of the start of next season.

Any supporter wishing to relocate to or from an area designated for conversion to safe standing can do so by contacting the Ticket Office in person or over the phone on 0115 982 4388 during the designated Season Card relocations window later in the summer. Please ensure to renew your existing seat before the renewals deadline.

It seems odd that so few seats are to be redesigned. Will this mean that the rest of the Lower Bridgford will remain seated? No. will this mean that the stewards will try and enforce the 'no persistent standing' dictate? I hope not (for their sakes).
I understand why the PT A and B blocks are not included because of the hoped-for rebuild. Meanwhile, will the stewards be faced with an impossible task again? Same as P block in BC Upper.

I imagine, but I don't know, that this is a cautious approach as determined by the County Council as the safety authority. If so it is not very well thought out in my opinion. The demand for standing far exceeds what is going to be permitted under this scheme.

Going forward, TE Lower and BC Lower could become standing areas. Perhaps the whole of the Lower Bridgford could become standing, with the visiting fans accommodated elsewhere?

I'm pleased that it is happening though, even if I think that it represents the haphazard thinking that is to do with stadium development generally.

I know a lot of people stand, but it would be interesting to know how many only have to do it because the person in front of them is standing.
