Good arguments lads but points deductions was after he was brought in.

He wasn't brought in to battle against relegation. Behave.
Yes, so being deducted points made it easier for him or harder? I'm not being deliberately obtuse I just don't understand - perhaps I've missed the point you're countering.

And yes, he was bought in to win the league, because ambition, but if you couldn't see we were in the shit by the point he came in then I'm not sure how losing points helped us, along with all the other shit.

I'm sorry, Maxi, but I think this is a bit harsh.

He's been running uphill since he arrived and we've been subject to some diabolical officiating (attempting to take a step back and look at things objectively).

I think he gets the benefit of a window and a pre-season. But, then, I'm not Big E.

Funnily enough, I was imagining a Sliding Doors moment the other day, where CHO won a (PGMOL verified) penalty at Everton and the complexion of their whole season changed - and ours with it. Obviously not as Sliding Doors as Huddersfield's against us, but still illustrates the fine margins, etc.

As for Moyes sure I'd love him - ain't happening though is it? The rest? Dice roll.

Not ignoring the flaws I think we've got as good 'an experienced premier league manager' as we could attract at present, better than we could following all the shit since. (And he came as we couldn't land the other one who did a decent job at Wolves, Lopetegui was it?)
Sorry to say just do not think he is right for this club, would like Moyes who would stabilise us for the next few years. Also rate Rob Edwards from Luton who has done an amazing job with next to nothing investment. Kieran McKenna Ipswich manager has massively impressed as well.

Let's not rewrite history.

He was brought in to get us towards midtable. Absolutely no one was talking about 30 points and avoiding relegation by the skin of our teeth when he came in.
Tbf Maxi we might have been nearer to that target but nobody expected the 4 points deduction and all of the undoubted trepidation and effect it's had on the players

Have to say i'm surprised at the amount of times i've seen posters mention Moyes. West Ham can be flashy at times (Paqueta mostly) but mostly its turgid stuff. I know what he has achieved, but if he served up his style of football here the fanbase would not accept it.
Also not flashy enough for the Big Man. Though he would call him a "European Champion".

Nuno for me because i've just realised that some of the names that would be linked would scare the shit out of me. Bar Mourinho. Awful football but fits my philosophy of seeing the PL burn.

For me, there isn't a doubt in my mind that we should send him on his way in the summer, especially if we're looking to progress into mid-table mediocrity. I don't personally feel we've really improved since he came in, in December. We might have been better going forward but we've been just as bad defensively and if anything, the set piece problem at both ends has persisted.

I don't think he's someone that can ignite a fan base such as ours and I don't think he can change a game with tactics and substitutions. I don't hate the guy but I don't see him at the club long term either.

I get people not wanting to rip up the blueprint and start again, as it might be disruptive. But at the same time, I don't want us to continue with something I don't have faith in either. Ideally, I'd f*** Mendes' involvement with the club off as well. While we're not in Europe, Mendes is just going to take the piss with us anyway.

I personally don’t think the team had really evolved at all under Cooper in the PL. We were still riding off the back of the promotion season.

It’s impossible for us in the outside to know, my personal guess is that Nuno has come into a shit show. He’s having to do a ground up rebuild, whilst developing some of the younger talent we have by throwing them into the fire. Those that are the most technically gifted. Danilo for example. Both young CBs. Learning on the job. Williams another. etc

Whole not really wanting to engage with the whole slow thing again, I do think that we'll see more proactive changes with the right amount of squad depth - he's been massively limited there.

Week before last there were calls of get the kid on. An 18 year old, who he sees every day. He'd know best if he were ready. (Perhaps he will be next season...)

Reyna isn't aggressive enough, T's injured, Origi is dreadful - there's nothing to turn to.
Nuno deserves a shot at next season, despite his failings for me.

He's been slow with a lot of stuff, but now he's been here a while that slowness is less of an issue, and having a full pre-season to get to grips with stuff will somewhat negate that anyway.

I’m convinced some folk are just unhappy because our manager is no longer named Steve Cooper.

Nuno came in to keep us up and barring a spectacular final two weeks he would’ve achieved that.

He would’ve done that despite losing half the squad to AFCON, the PGMOL doing their best to relegate us and a point deduction.

1PPG and securing another £150M for the club? Not good enough for Nottingham Forest.
And if you're not on board with the continued Cooper adoration it's clear that you don't know what a good manager looks like.

Some said they'd be happier getting relegated than sacking Cooper. That's becoming clear. Quite sad really.

You keep stating what he was brought in to do and not do. As if you're In The Know.

You don't have a clue. Certainly no more than the rest of us do. He may have been brought in because the owner decided the other guy was taking us down. But then that wouldn't suit your narrative.

The other thing to consider is that a) I can't see any way that our feud with the PGMOL will end anytime soon, it will just continue into next season, and b) we may well face further points deductions next season as I can't see Marinakis suddenly curbing his spending (not someone with his ambition).

So the manager next year will have similar obstacles to overcome.

I think the Ribeiro argument is that we are so short of options and that with Wood needing to be the main striker and Taiwo out and with Origi the only other option who hasn't done anything useful at all really, that could he be any worse than the other options? The base line is relatively low.

Nuno has also been relatively cautious with things so yes he does see the lad in training every day but Origi has PL experience and played in Italy etc so presumably Nuno values this more than playing a lad who is very raw probably and very unproven. In a relegation battle you might not necessarily want to be blooding raw kids.

I don't think it's the case that there are fans who are unhappy with Nuno because he's not Steve Cooper, I think its the fact that they haven't seen sufficient improvement in the teams fortunes since Cooper left. Even without the points deduction, we've been in a precarious position for the majority of the season.

I've been unsure on Nuno for a while, however I think we should stick with him*. There are an awful lot of issues at the club that have made this season difficult for any manager:
  • An over-bloated squad
  • A scatter gun approach to recruitment
  • Breaching FFP
  • AFCON disruption
  • Horrific VAR decisions
This is just a quick fire list, I could delve deeper into some of the 'off' field issues.

I think the owner and some fans need to have realistic expectations of what we should be aiming for. Everybody has been banging on about this season being horrific and whilst it has been challenging, in the context of supporting forest in the 21st Century, it's likely to be our second best finish in 24 years.

Given the turmoil of this season, I just want us to build on the existing squad that we've got, accept that Murillo might go, hopefully keep MGW and just strengthen where necessary. Let's be sensible with our spending and aim for 13th/14th place, then build on from that. Let's see what Nuno can do when managing this team with a bit more calmness behind the scenes.
