I will reiterate a previous post. If there is any truth in Nuno fobbing off the set piece coach for his own guy. He wants sacking. Another set piece goal conceded.
He'll own the sacking.

If he doesn't believe in this guy, without that being pejorative about his skilss as a set piece coach, why would he want someone else's hands on his sacking?

I really want to know what's happening with our set piece coach. If Nuno still isn't using him, then that has to be a case of one of the most bizarre decisions ever.
Cooper didn't want him and refused for months, eventually Marinakis got his way and hired him, then fired Cooper and hired Nuno, who came in and didn't want him either

We conceded a set piece because the keeper messed up, in general I thought we were much better from attacking corners and a bit more organised defensively too.

Once Nuno has had a pre season with the squad we will be much improved and I’m willing to die on that sword.
Not solely down to the mistake from Sels, how about we actually show some will to attack the ball and win the 1st header. The amount of times the opposition gets a free header from set pieces is against the law of averages, it's crazy and shows not only the piss poor organisation but also a complete lack of desire, and it's the same story when we have a set piece.

In between the two, the set-piece coach was offered to our then manager, he also refused, and was subsequently fired. We continue to be terrible in set pieces.

Putting the set piece coach confusion to one side, I don't understand why the current coaching staff and players can't just get together and work out the basics of defending a corner. Seriously, go back to the very basics you learnt as a 5 year old.

I don't think Nuno did a lot wrong yesterday, but the inability to grasp hold of set piece defending could see us relegated. What does the opposition need to do when preparing to play Forest; just win some corners and that's it!! We will concede goals against Burnley and Sheff U if this woeful defending continues. I don't blame Murillo or Omobamidele, as this has been a problem all season.

One positive from yesterday was MGW being off corner duty; fans had been saying that for months. However, I can't see us keeping a clean sheet in any of the remaining fixtures unless there's some serious work at the training ground; we've got to score at least 2 goals in a game to win. Sels is a much better keeper than Turner and Vlach, so we need to be working on this fundamental issue.

It's so frustrating when we keep making the same defensive mistakes.

Wood was the root cause of this goal he tuned his back and jumped past the ball, if he did his job the ball would have been headed away.

I thought Maranakis wanted Gianni Vio as set piece coach but the deal fell through. We then hired the guy we have now and then Cooper was sacked a week or 2 later?

Basically, Nuno needs to swallow his ego and beg the set piece man to help save his job.

Gianni Vio is the set piece coach now at USA national team. I wonder how much better would be if we had convinced him in October?

sels weakly pushing the ball into a crowd of opposing players. Either punch it clear with force or hold it, not palm it straight into a bunch of wolves players, it was pathetic keeping. Nuno can't do anything about individual mistakes.

23 and their biggest player was unmarked as they entered the box late. We fans could see it and Wood did eventually, but travelled 10 yards to meet him, by then he was already beaten.

Just shit preparation, which stems from the management.

If Nuno's job is under threat - it probably is to some extent - why would he outsource this to someone else?

If his Job is at risk, he probably wants to keep control of everything that is putting it at stake.

Imagine trusting it to someone and they didn't deliver. Now you're sacked.

No.

The root cause is the coaching staff being unable to train basic defending at set pieces.

Been the same all season.

Rusk has never been a ‘set piece’ coach before joining us he managed the England under 19’s so was probably just someone Cooper knew/trusted.

Gianni Vio is an actual specialist set piece coach and EM should’ve hired him regardless of Coopers opinion seeing as he was sacked weeks later.

Cooper rejected Vio in favour of his pick, everyone knew Cooper was under serious pressure at that time so it’s laughable we bothered to hire his man when he was basically already sacked.

In summer we need to hire an actual set piece coach not someone who’s never done the job before as he was too busy coaching kids.

Surround yourself with SMEs; it's just good business practice. Nuno's set piece expertise is sadly lacking. With a supposed SME at the club, our inability to defend set pieces looks foolish when we're not utilising him. Only one man to blame for such a cluster and his over confidence in his ability that is lacking, may help send us down.

So if you're the manager of a struggling department would you look for outside help to improve it or would you just micro manage every aspect to fix things.

I can tell you in business micro managing doesn't work. He either delegates to the guy we're employing currently or we hire someone else.

I didnt say anything about micromanaging the situation. You dreamed that one up.

So do we reckon it’s worth bothering learning the names of his assistants or what then?

Seems a waste of mental energy if he’s off in five games.
