I took a look at a Liverpool forum, the very same comment was made. Big Larry very well thought of over there too. Rest in Peace LarrySomeone with a better grasp of that period of time may prove me wrong but I doubt anybody else that left Liverpool during the Shankly/Paisley/Fagan/Dalglish era went on to better things elsewhere like Larry did. A pretty special acheivement in itself.
I defy anyone to name a better double actA not-uncommon misconception is that Lloyd and Burns wouldn't be able to operate at the highest level in the modern game. It's obvious that their type of - to put it kindly - robust approach is now largely outlawed, but that notwithstanding, both could definitely play, and Lloyd, unusually for a man with his frame, could shift a bit once he got into his stride. Like Burns, he could also pick a pass, which was a hugely important component in Cloughie's possession-based brand of counter-attacking football. Add that to their absolute mastering of the unseen dark arts of defending, and both would be PL players today.
Dare I mention Colin Todd and Roy McFarland at Clough’s Derby?I defy anyone to name a better double act
The only way to settle this is....Dare I mention Colin Todd and Roy McFarland at Clough’s Derby?
I’m not sure they were better than Larry and Kenny but I reckon it’s a close run thing.
Both fabulous partnerships-I wouldn’t mind a direct line to Cloughie ‘upstairs’ to ask
his opinion.
I’m happy for Larry and Kenny to be declared the winners,Rocka-but I suppose there wasThe only way to settle this is....
Trophies
Burns and Lloyd are the winners.
I’m happy for Larry and Kenny to be declared the winners,Rocka-but I suppose there was
a possibility that Derby could have emulated Forest’s feat if 1.The referee wasn’t allegedly
crooked in Turin and 2.Clough hadn’t resigned at Derby in 1973.
Absolutely Oz.As i believe Rocka would say
Nah Cloughie. No contest, Lloyd and Burnsy.Dare I mention Colin Todd and Roy McFarland at Clough’s Derby?

Yes, I saw that. It was more-or-less a case of: Oh, and he also played for Nottingham Forest. With Liverpool: 1 League title, 1 UEFA Cup.
With Forest: 1 League title, 2 League Cups, 2 European Cups, 1 European Super Cup.
Football (ie Rich 6) Focus: Let’s show him in his Liverpool kit.
Luckily, I had the sound down and happened to look up as they showed the picture, but I’m not the least surprised. It’s like when we played Liverpool in the European Cup - my memory is that a brief preview of the first leg on either the news or John Craven’s Newsround that day sounded exactly like it would (ie 90% Liverpool and barely more than mentioning our name) if we had been some obscure team from Finland or Czechoslovakia, not the reigning English champions. Some things never change…Yes, I saw that. It was more-or-less a case of: Oh, and he also played for Nottingham Forest.
