Financial Fair Play (FFP)

The FD shared a projection with board in Sept 22 that we would breach. The board took no action and we continued to spend in January 23.

Or put another way, we exhibited all the financial restraint of Imelda Marcos in a shoe shop.

The local WI run their tombola stall at the village fete better documented and more professionally. And they don't get Divok Origi as a prize either.

My last post in here (lol) - rather than being f**ked off with the whole thing I think it's better to remind ourselves that the signings we probably shouldn't have made last winter (Shelvey aside, though we gained a point with him in the side iirc) are the ones that massively helped keep us up. Also, Brentford didn't get BJ. Wins.

The clubs who have been in the Prem for a considerable time are, in the main, happy to vote for these new potty rules because those clubs have already spent their money , have competitive squads and only require to top up their squads each window.

As stated ad nauseam, the small clubs are the ones who are buffeted by these rules. Why they vote for them, I fail to understand.
Man Utd & Man City both voted against the anchoring last week and Chelsea abstained. In general, the clubs don't want to remove the spending restrictions

Was never going to happen though, that was them thinking above their position in football :)

Not reporting promotion bonuses is not just against PSR it is also tax evasion and illegal. As regards stopping clubs competing see my post above. It is only a few years ago Wolves, Forest, Toon, Villa and Brighton were in the Championship together. 3 of those teams were in Europe last season and it looks like two will be in Europe again this year. 3 finished top half last season, one in the top 4 and this year it looks like 2 will finish top half, there is a good chance it will be three and the likelihood is that one of those teams will also be in the top 4
And all of those clubs looked destined for a return to the Championship at some point.

The fact they didn't (we still might) doesn't invalidate the point. Promoted teams start at PSR disadvantage, not just the lower loss levels but the fact they will have paid a promotion bonus that has to be included in PSR losses for 3 years.

I assume with this being a legal requirement that any promotion bonus is reported separately so we should be able compare all promoted clubs going back years.

The same for everyone, so it's irrelevant.
Yes, but competitive advantage. Teams in the EPL only a season before us enjoy that.

Frankly, I couldn't give a f*ck. Now we know where we are, irrespective of the timing of the Brennan sale and the club's (mis)understanding of how that might mitigate against any charge forthcoming.

If we don't stay up now, 3 points above Luton and 5 above a *shocking* Burnley team, then it's on us.

But it should be difficult to break into the PL, isn't that part of what makes it the best league in the world. If it was an easy league to survive in it wouldn't be the best. Teams need a good few years of good management and transfers and coaching to get to the top, it shouldn't be something that can happen overnight imo. As for bonuses, I am sure all the clubs that expect to be fighting relegation at the start of the season e.g. Luton, Sheffield, dare I say Forest, will have bonuses for players if they avoid relegation

I agree but you will stay up :)

I don't disagree but why stack the odds beyond the obvious.

Tbf brentford wouldn't get BJ, they are the guy with no mates sat in teh corner who's still a virgin in his 50s

Ah. Brentford.

Anyone else find it curious that Brentford knew to bid exactly £35m when the only people who knew the size of Forest's breach and the bid needed to mitigate it were Forest and the EPL?
I could see a team like Brentford hiring a financial analyst to model and estimate other teams annual accounts and identify clubs in “PSR distress”. That’s when they swoop in with lowball bids between the transfer window opening and July 1st.

And I only say that because it’s the smart thing to do and there’s enough info out there to do it for most teams in the PL and championship.

Maybe we should hire Brentford's financial director, he seemed to be more on the ball than ours.

I agree and with so much information in the public domain it can't be too difficult to estimate a club's financial position. Then, if u want to get an expert in to validate your financial analysis you just need to go onto a fans forum and there are hundreds of experts to choose from

Decent people are hard to find because despite the amount of money paid to the footballers the other staff are on shit money. I was offered a position at Barnsley FC last week as a head of operations and it was 35k short of the average salary and 55k short of my expectations considering my experience.

Football clubs seem to have a strange delusion that you should just be grateful and honoured that you work for a professional football club. It's the number one reason that the vast majority of them are an absolute shitshow behind the scenes.

Couple of points not specifically Forest related:
1) could be a deadline dead scenario on 30th June!
2) so much for settling in the season the breach was committed - Everton still got a charge outstanding, irrelevant now but who knows what affect another 3 points off at the time would have had, maybe 777 would have pulled the plug and they would have gone bust???
