Financial Fair Play (FFP)

Only partially true though isnt it, we bought more than a whole squads worth of players. There was a middle ground to be had that we overshot.
We did spend a lot but the case revolves round not selling Johnson quickly enough.
The more I think about it,I feel the 4 points sanction is somewhat harsh given that we sold
him shortly after in order to rectify the error.-it’s not as if we carried on regardless.

I don't even think it was en error, Cloughie. It was simply maximising the financial profit on a player whose departure was inevitable. In other words, financial responsibility.

Be careful Captain, you could be accused of supporting Mr Marinakis!
He may not be the most pleasant and caring human on the planet.
I may not want to spend a fortnight on holiday in his company.
And I don't agree with all of his actions as an owner.
But he rescued us from the clutches of Fawaz.
He is justified in being a bit miffed that the EPL won't let him use his money like they did the other clubs before those other clubs decided to pull up the drawbridge and let the other clubs splash around in the moat.
I think the last thing we need right now is a new owner... he isn't perfect, but he has tried.

demonstrates that Forest and Luton have significantly more in common than both clubs and sets of fans may think.

We bought too many players, agreed.
However, when faced with having to recruit a goodly number, the Club had to assume that not every purchase would turn out to be a good one, and also had to ensure we had enough cover for sickness, injury and suspensions.
Some attrocious purchases were made, rather more bad buys than good, but we were starting from ground zero.
You either do it incrememntally: yo-yoing and trying to steadily build a team using the parachute payments, but that hasn't really worked for clubs in the past.
Or you can do what Forest did, survive year 1, then make incremental changes.
Our failure was to make sufficient good buys that first summer window, and ten making more poor decisions (Shelvey???) in the January.
And of course, the owner didn't like the popularity of Steve Cooper, so we had to change managers...
It's all been a bit of a shit show... because we were serious about ambition, but were impatient.

For me it's very much a case of "be careful what you wish for"

EM is far from perfect and has made his fair share of mistakes but if he were to sell up we could end up with much, MUCH worse

I seem to remember people hounding Doughty out because they thought he was a shit owner, and then we ended up with Fawaz!

I don't have anything against Luton - the team or the fans - ok the City is an absolute top tier shit-hole but I don't hold that against them. To have gone from the top tier to non-league and back in my lifetime is a bigger rollercoaster than the one we've been on and, if we weren't where we are then I'd be giving them, as the true underdog, my best wishes for staying up. But as things stand it's them or us, so...

I don't mind Luton as a club, you have to admire what they achieved making it to the Premier League and then actually making a decent fist of staying up

But ultimately if it's between us and them to go down then it's not even a decision is it

Personally I'd have preferred both our clubs to stay up and Everton to go down

I almost feel sorry for Luton Town, when their only celebrity fan is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

Back when they had Eric Morecombe, things were probably much easier for them.

Reminds me a bit of when the Times of London declared that Adolf Hitler was a fan of FC Schalke 04 (spoiler: he wasn’t) and Schalke‘s head of PR, Gerd Voss, went in properly two-footed with his response:
