I've washed my hands of this now. It feels quite nice actually.

Ah, nice to see that The Athletic is working on there again. They had disabled access when I last looked about a year ago.
I am with you.
What is done is done. No point dragging it on any further - just a waste of breath.
Get past Chelsea and secure EPL safety - learn our lessons and come back stronger next season.
Season ticket renewed and paid for.

A long summer of sport to look forward to - plenty of cricket @ Trent Bridge, the Euros in Germany and then the Olympics in Paris.
A few weeks holiday in Spain and back to Forest in August.

I've never had to turn JavaScript off or put it into reading mode. Might be different for other browsers but I've just used chrome
The JS trick works on a certain newspaper's site which has recently introduced payment for some articles.

But then I use firefox and not chrome because I still want some RAM

I'd like to see Ateef konaté given a crack with 10 minutes to go. He's looked promising for a while now
Just a shame they didn't give Anel a good crack all those years ago

He didn't for Oxford United iirc.

Think the step up right now is way too big for the likes of Konate - think it's all about finding them league football tbh.

Will be the same with Osong too I think unless we drop - it's going to take a seriously special talent to work through to this level, and probably five or six loan outs along the way. Don't hold your breath...

You are on fire. I just liked the deleted post without considering the ramifications for the forum. Apologies.

Can't we do our bit to divert revenue away from sky sports specifically though? They've earned it.

Ah, apologies good sir.

I'll go and watch a 'Best of Tom Lawrence' compilation on YouTube as punishment.

You joke but I seem to remember reading that we’ve basically done this with the fee for Brennan Johnson. I.e. we’re still due installments from Spurs but have taken a loan already for the full amount so we can put the income on the books this year. I might have got the wrong end of the stick as usual though 😆.
I think it's more like a 0% interest credit agreement that you do in a store. The store get x % of the transfer straight away and the credit company gets the full amount through the deferred payments as they come in.

might as well write off all our academy players, not good enough. It's about opportunities, if you don't give them a try, we'll never know if they are good enough but to be fair, we do need to stabilize forest position and establish themselves in the epl standings first. This constant fighting relegation every season is no place or enviroment to bring in youngsters into the first team fold.

Having had time to reflect on the appeal outcome I'm starting to get really angry with the club. Why did we not focus on the promotion bonus, Covid losses, and the late notice provided that these wouldn't be acceptable.

Either we totally messed up the appeal and the original hearing, or we've been led a merry dance over the validity of these issues, and the timings of discussions with the EPL about them. Either way there is some serious faces being covered in faeces over this.

That's kind of my point, though with Konate more so because he's over the age limit where he can be used as part of a squad without taking a squad place iirc. It's going to be incredibly tough for any to break through at this level imho, especially as we transition from academy set ups (tiers are they? I forget the terminology).

Doesn't mean we write them off, just that they have to be prepared to work through the levels as Yates had to - if you aren't really taking those chances like Konate, Mcguane, Panzo, Soh and the midfielder lad who looked a very tidy player but who's attitude let him down (Fewster was it?), you don't have too much of a chance at breaking through in the 'worlds best league'.

Seem to remember Yates was wanted by every club he went to prior to breaking through for us - even with that I think without our championship spell together he may not have made our prem squad. It's just an incredibly tough level, with no room for errors.

Given the fact we didn't even mention those factors in the appeal, it just demonstrates that the club are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

We had no mitigation whatsoever other than the late sale of Johnson. Which it seems was very clearly not permissable. There's lots of arguments about why the rules are bullshit, which are entirely accurate but entirely irrelevant to the fact of our points deduction.

The club have tried to paint a very different picture publicly. But the simple fact is that we knew we overspent, we were significantly over PSR limits, we delayed a BJ sale, and we were punished accordingly.

But why aren't the same rules applied to all clubs

I think it's a simple case that club knew they were going to breach with the late Johnson sale but wanted to get that extra money for him so were open with it, liaised with the Premier League about it during the summer thinking that (at that point) no points deductions had been given for any PSR breaches so would likely get away with a fine, which I can understand to some extent

I dare say if they knew then what they know now they might well have done things differently

This is what I think too, and I think our experiences this year will have an impact on how we do business going forward. I think the days of "throwing shit until it sticks" with signings like Dennis, Shelvey etc are gone - at least until a point we work through our remaining amortisation liability.

I don't think there's a 'one size fits all' approach when it comes to youngsters - the ones we choose to give opportunities too, should definitely be made to earn those opportunities. Just putting in outstanding performances in the academy teams is, unfortunately not the best indicator of first team-readiness these days - with the academy teams that we're playing against looking to get their star-players first team experience with loan spells further down the pyramid.
I'm sure that there is not a club-wide mandate on writing off all our academy players, but unfortunately those that we have got loan opportunities to, haven't exactly set the lower divisions on fire, with the likes of Dale Taylor, Alex Mighten and Aguilera et al struggling to make a sustained impact.

This. Paul Taylor made this point on yesterday's Forest Focus podcast. None of the clubs had any idea what the punishment would be for a breach. That in itself is ridiculous considering the consequence could be relegation.

To suddenly start docking points without warning is nuts.
