I'd be with you Ash but unfortunately I think getting a good owner is less than a coin flip. We've all seen what shit owners can bring both here and at other clubs. If the risk wasn't so huge at getting a shit owner I'd be with you. The one thing we're guaranteed to have with Marinakis is our football club. I genuinely believe he cares, he does unbelievable work for the community and demands it and he always puts his hand in his pocket.

I'd rather not risk the security we do have with hin unnecessarily. Better the devil you know and all that.
I respect your opinion, but I'm not sure Marinakis necessarily offers security, particularly if we go down and end up in further FFP trouble. For better or worse, it will always be chaos with him.

Criticism is obviously fine. But this thread is literally titled “Evangelos Marinakis out protest” and many, rightly in my opinion, wouldn’t go nearly that far.
And many are saying that on this thread. Along with many making valid criticisms which are dismissed because he got us promoted.

If you think Marinakis is bad just look at owners like Vincent Tan who changed the colours of Cardiff City, who had worn blue for over a century since their foundation, to Red because he thought it would make them more marketable internationally

If you think there aren't some absolutely clueless, batshit crazy potential owners, a hundred times worse than Marinakis who we might end up with, you're wrong

What exactly did Murphy do that was so incredible? Apart from sign Djed Spence and, fairs fair, Taiwo Awoniyi when he isn’t crocked? He did a good job I’m sure but I just don’t really get the canonisation.

Steve Cooper, yes, obviously.
Assuming you didn't rate Davis, Zinckernagel, Lowe, Surridge etc. And getting them all for pretty much next to nothing?

Also, appointing Steve Cooper is a pretty big deal. Certainly a more successful appointment than Marinakis ever managed. Marinakis couldn't even make the playoffs - never mind win them - with his chosen managers, despite investing far much more money than Murphs did.

It's a balancing act he's far from perfect but he is bankrolling his own mistakes he could of done a Norwich or Sheffield u and enjoyed the and gone down yes some of the things he does irk me especially in my eyes creating an unworkable position to a good manager and even better person but its his club and his choices I respect what he has done for us look at the struggle other clubs have with owners makes me grateful in the main

Apart from taking an utterly disorganised mess of a club which was rushing headlong towards League one, that could not sign players due to previous mismanagement due to signing players like Harry Arter, giving it a focus, some structure and drive, appointing good people in the right positions, recruiting properly and turning it round to the extent that 18 months later they were in the Premier League?

Not much.

Agree totally.

Im not sure theres a man alive that would have implented the blue print in such a short space of time, certainly not one that owns a football club.

It beggers belief how ungrateful and naive some people are.
Rival fans calling us entitled. Probably spot on tbf.

Well he appointed Steve Cooper for one. And the recruitment was much better, without breaking the bank. Even results aside, it was just nice to be a normal football club for a change as the ownership took a back seat for once.
I’ll give you Cooper. But not convinced on the recruitment front sorry. Most of the players he brought in have either gone, have hardly played, or are permanently crocked. With eternal gratitude to the loans he brought in of course in the promotion season. Didn’t even want to sign Steve Cook. And yes, grumbling about the ownership tends to take a back seat when the manager has the team winning every week.

Steve Cooper yes, absolutely 👑. I just don’t get the recruitment genius thing. Have any of those players done anything of note since?

Also didn't Cooper and Murphy actually fall out too so was also not an ideal situation we all know we got promoted before we were ready marinakis decision making worked last season just however slapdashed it looked

Are they not unreaaonable because you want them, or not unreasonable because its not your money?

If youre talking about catering then I'll back you 100% mate!

What issues you thinking though?
I don’t think it’s unreasonable, nor would cost him a penny to maintain better relationships with key figures at the club (Murphy, Brazil, Cooper) and trust them get on with their jobs without the burden of reasonable expectations.
A better level of communication and not alienating the fans on a whim.
And surrounding himself with better advisors/lackeys/hanger-ons.

No, but they were ideal for what we needed there and then. That's the genius of it IMO. Davis is one of the best signings we've ever made IMO in terms of suitability for the task in hand, Surridge not too far behind.

They all came in, fit like a glove, and cost naff all too. Coops definitely got the best out of them, but that's what made that whole time so Cough-Taylor like. It was a perfect synergy.

Well they cost naff all because they were all on loan. If we’d lost the playoffs we would still have been in the same position of rebuilding half the team. Though I suppose Braian Ojeda and Richie Laryea might have come good.
