Another bumper crowd under lights at the City Ground, no more motivation needed for the starting XI, solid performance 2-0

“We are very happy with James. We want healthy competition and you want good players not to be starting,” says Cooper. “It is a positive situation for us, in that we have players in all areas pushing each other.

“We do not look at him as a sub. We look at him as a starting player and an important part of the team. We really like having him here. He has to keep working hard like everyone else — but he is. It is a difficult decision when I am picking my midfield and there is no entitlement. Nobody’s place in the side is guaranteed. That goes against our culture.

“I want Yatesy and Jack’s relationship to be as strong as the one that Yatesy and James have — or James and Jack. That is the key to a strong squad — because there will be plenty of moments where players are not available; where you have to make changes, whether it is because of tiredness or whatever else.

“For me, the more connections you can have with the team, the better.”

If the loan agreement means that Forest have to play him every week then he should probably just say that

Although victory is a possibility, it's likelihood is diminished without our big 'Y' fronts.

Lets hope Samba is inspired and they get cold hands n feet and dont turn up, the soft southerners.

Last games: 4-2-3-1 (same as Hughton).
    Defeat, Draw, Draw, Win, Draw.
    6 points from 15.
That is not good... that is reverting to what we were under Hughton.
Over the last 5 games Derby's performance has been:
Draw, Defeat, Defeat,Draw,Win, deduct 21 points.
Other than the minus 21 points we and they are performing equally poorly.
So, tonight Steve it has to be a 3-4-1-2 formation please; go for the win from the start; keep going for more goals over the 90 plus minutes.
    My team would be:
    ------------------SAMBA------------------
    ----WORRALL------FIGUERIDO------MCKENNA--
    SPENCE----FORNAH--------COLBACK------LOWE
    --------------ZINCKERNAGEL---------------
    --------JOHNSON--------GRABBAN-----------

It is more entertaining and it works.
I would recommend spectators don their thermal socks, long johns and vests tonight... it is going to be cold.
I'm taking a hip-flask of Woods' Rum an a flask of coffee.

It's an interesting dilemma in the middle of the park who to partner up for this one. Does he leave Colback on there for stability? Does he leave Garner there with slightly less stability or does he try a whole new combination?

    Colback and Garner

    Garner and Fornah

    Colback and Ojeda

    Garner and Ojeda

    Fornah and Ojeda

    Colback and Fornah

I certainly admire your confidence that Lowe will be fit enough to start tonight Captain.

    Oh blast!
    I'd forgotten about Lowe's injury.
Mind you I did wonder if his injury was feigned as he was getting a real going over by that Reading wing-back on Saturday...
Oh well, 4-2-3-1 it will be and the best we can hope for is another draw.

I wouldn't bother getting one either.
The Mrs got me a year's sub last Christmas.
£60 she paid (they saw her coming... everyone else got a special off price, not her).
There is the occasional decent article, but I wouldn't renew, even at a special offer discount.
For one thing there is no cricket on it.
For another, I think it is all simply speculation and the journo's interpretation of stories floated elsewhere in other media.
The 2 Taylors provide some interesting copy, but overall I am totally unimpressed.

It seems about the right time to get Garner back involved too, so moving Colback to fill in at LWB seems the most favourable option.

I'm seeing one of those cagey games coming tomorrow night. I think we'll win, but make heavy work of it to move into the top 10
We are nowhere ready for the top 10.
We are improving, but the improvements have not been massive yet.
Also, the 6 points from the last 5 games doesn'tsignify top 10 form does it?
We are still fragile at the back (Spence and Lowe look definitely weaker in a back 4 than in a more attacking 4 across the midfield), and despite Grabban hitting 8 goals now, we are still powder puff up front.
I am am hopeful Cooperman will continue to get the team to progress, but this season I think 11th to 15th is where we will finish.
If we don't win tonight it will be a bit of a choker.
And despite WBA looking a bit shaky from time to time, I can't see us coming home with any points on Friday night.
If we lose tonight and then again on Friday that would be 6 points from 21, which is beginning to look like Hughton form again.
Win tonight my belief will be restored, but at the moment I am feeling a tad less confident about things.
    At least we aren't Direby!

The regular articles by Taylor (P) are just not worth reading - absolute garbage held together by stats that any of us could put together.
The occasional contributions of Taylor (D) are worth the £1 monthly special offer - just not enough of them.

I had a free month's Athletic subscription and I did enjoy the articles, and the post-match Q&As but for me the price is just a bit too high for what you get

Harsh on Taylor. He's offered plenty of decent articles and obtains a lot of good insight direct from the players/staff.

My sub had run out a month ago, just took the £1/month offer to renew. I wouldn't pay full sub price but more than happy to pay a quid each month to avoid the Post and it's advert riddled website when they copy the same content a day later.

ITK Fornah is definitely on the bench. My dad just had a chat with Reidy outside his kid's school.

Need to start winning home games consistently.

Next 5 are all winnable, 6th one is Derby.

3 points tonight would do nicely.

I think one of the best halfs of football we played under Hughton was against Luton when we were down to ten men as the shackles had to come off and we had to go for it.

Garner will play. Almost nailed on. Him and Colback in the middle.

    Other than that, unchanged

Looks good to me. I wouldn’t be against switching Colback & Odeja over in that formation either if needed. Odeja is young, energetic, apparently has pace to get up and down, defends well, good feet, LWB might suit him.

With Hart and Cohen on the Luton bench, this could be the first game I’ve seen where the home crowd gives more admiring chants to the opposition personnel than their own boys.

Interesting take on our chances by the bookies.
Odds only slightly less than those on offer against a Luton win ( 6/4 v 7/4 ).
My glass is almost always half empty - but those odds seem quite generous.
