The youth rebel against a lot, it's just that old blokes don't like to see it so dismiss it without a moment's thought.

Maybe it's because they don't have a uniform? Billie Eilish t shirts probably don't count.

I fucking loved music with an absolute passion. Always have since the day I was born. From being sat on my potty watching Bucks Fizz win the Eurovision, to listening to the stuff Dad + Uncle Kev played, to playing Meatloaf, Queen, GnR etc. every night as a kid as I ran around the front room. My Billy-loving style obsessive nature was never more satisfied than when I was listening to good tunes.

I was one of these kids who couldn't get enough of everything. Pop, rock, punk, metal, dance, rave....everything apart from rap ....I dined out on everything I could get my hands on and have done most images from townie, to indie, to punk, to metal etc. Losing my hair at 25 kyboshed a lot of those though

I used to have a ton of photos of me with a mohican rocking a punk/metal crossover look, but they all went on Myspace and so are now lost forever. This is the only one I can find now, and it was when I was just growing it, plus a dark pic, so you can barely see it.....

    Good times
    Brilliant Alf, Muckin' Fagic.

I knew you'd have to get Bucks Fizz in there somehow.

Just as well you lost your hair... I'd hate to think you'd turn up at the City Ground sporting a Cheryl Baker perm.

Learnt to play some The Cramps tunes for my own enjoyment but Brian Setzer is like the god of RnR guitar isn’t he? A guy I used to jam with was big on Steve Vai and had one of his Ibanez signature guitars, didn’t see him for a few months but in that time he’d bought a Gretsch Chet Atkins and got into Brian Setzer. It was cool because we’d talked about him being a great player and he’d gone full on into it.

It’s one of those things that was always on my bucket list but have never done, when my mate joined Joey in The Predators I was a bit envious to be honest.
Nice one Bryn. I absolutely love the Pistols versions of Cochran songs. I prefer their 'Somethin' Else' to Cochran's.

Setzer is still going strong today. Still stuff with the stray cats along with his Big Band Swing Orchestra. Who'd ever thought back in the 80's Brian Setzer would end up having an orchestra.

Looking back they seemed to be overly influenced by all the American movies.
The music scene was dominated by US imports and the popular British acts were essentially Elvis impersonators ( I don't imply that they were bad just that their inspiration came from that place).
Also in the fifties don't forget that there was also the 'beatnik' culture who basically claimed to be existentialists but in reality they were middle class kids sitting around in dimly lit clubs smoking pot, reading Sartre and listening to weird ass jazz music.
Along came Skiffle which while having some roots in American culture was essentially British and that really was the start of British youth waking up to the fact that they could do their own thing. A lot of the groups that became 'Mod' I can had Skiffle as their first foray into making music.
Rockers were really just the tail end of the Teddy Boys and the violence between Mods and Rockers really peaked in 1964 after that it was more media hype than actual events also the Rockers were getting old.
From about 1962 onwards something really special began to happen. The youth and especially the working class youth realised that they had cash in their pockets and they could influence culture and fashion in a way that no generation before them had done. The emergence of bands who were just working class kids made kids realise they could pick up a guitar and do it. As the sixties moved on it became a great thing Britain led world culture without a doubt. I was only ten in 1965 but what I do remember is the great feeling of optimism that was about in the second half of the 60's, there has been nothing like it since.
70's and 80's well I haven't got time right now.
    Nice one Alabama.

    Where was that taken Rocka?

Similar could be seen across Nottingham about the same time in The Mint, Green Dragon, News House (St. James Street), Downstairs in Rock City, The Garage to name a few. There was a huge Psychobilly scene around Nottingham at the time, just looking at that picture took me back to those days.

Back in my day when you had to tick a box that said ‘sex’ we’d put ‘as often as possible’.

    Where’s „attack helicopter“?

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”
