What was the name of the drinking den on the street next to Midland Station that Jim Baxter was known to frequent?

Thanks a lot Otis. Never heard of the Beachcomber before. More research needed.

This would make a great book. I've got a book about pubs in Nottingham from the 90s which is a great read, I'd love to write something like it

    I'd buy it Freddie.

I'm not sure how much the internet will assist you in terms of the '60s, but there's a rich history to research as far as places like the Beachcomber, Dungeon and the Trentside rowing clubs for live music. Whereas the Ad-Lib (adjoining the Beachcomber), the Hippo (on Bridlesmith Gate), and the Pigalle (in Hockley) were more traditional late-night discoteques of that era. The Embassy on Trinity Walk also played an important role as a soul-music venue for predominently mid-teen kids at that time.

    Well spotted Gary!

I like that it overlooks Cripple Creek, one of The Band's best tunes.

This reminds me of me (this is exactly how I dressed, still do) when I used to chat to the lasses sitting on the steps of the Waltzer, when I worked on the fair.

Cheers Alf I've no idea who painted it.

It would look great in a frame.

Oh how times have changed. The girls are usually face down nowadays buried in a pile of vomit with their fat arse stuck in the air.

Replace the leather jacket with a sky-blue drape-coat, and the biker-boots with a pair of brothel-creepers Gary, and that image has an uncanny resemblence to our Doug, circa 1958.

I bet your Doug was as cool as a cucumber, probably still is.

Please pass on my kindest regards to him, Frank.

He's impressed with a lot of your stuff that I've shown him Gary.

His hair has almost gone, and he's carrying a bit of timber, but for a bloke of 80, he's not doing too bad - not that I'd ever tell him that of course.

Well, I've never seen anyone with a sofa like that in their house, but near the Asda in Strelley, there is a pirate very similar to that one standing on a landing of a first floor flat, that can be seen from the road. It is one of the things my daughter has been "spotting" since very young. Even now whenever we drive past there, the cries of "The pirates still there" oft ring out on car journeys.
