    Default Mobile Phones

Apologies if there is already a thread on mobile phones, I had a look around and couldn't find anything.

As I've been having a few issues with mine and with us spending a lot of our lives glued to these things, I thought it might be useful for people to have a thread to ask for advice, whether it's in relation to problems or getting a new one.

So my Samsung A70 has the black screen of death since I woke up yesterday morning. Tried all the tips on youtube and elsewhere and can feel it vibrating when I press buttons, but the screen is just pitch black.

I rang up EE and have a new phone arriving tomorrow.

What I wanted to know was if anyone had any advice for retrieving old photos, videos and contacts from the phone. I stupidly saved everything on the phone by the looks of things, tried to plug the cable directly into a couple of PC's, but there's no response.

Anyone had a similar problem and managed to sort it? Bit annoying to lose so much stuff but I guess if I can't sort it, I'll just consider it a fresh start

If you have Google synced it should be a doddle to retrieve your settings, I've just done it myself and its the same as my old phone in less than 30 minutes.

Only issue I had is the replacement sim they sent me was a different number and belonged to some poor lass in Sunderland, been in contact with her and we are now both waiting on the provider to sort out the whole issue, had the ODI in contact with us and they are giving is compensation, told them I want £500

If they don't I will just let it go to court.

Are you saving to the Phone's memory or an SD card?

This wont help you now, but most android phone lets you add an SD card. I have all moy photos and documents save to the SD card.

Although its a pain in the arse and there are some privacy issues - I also turn on full back from Google and Samsung (which is now OneDrive) so I can get my shizzle back in the event of a disaster like this.

Mine did the same but luckily, at that point I'd saved all my pics onto the sd card. Unfortunately it wasn't long after that my SD card died and made them unretrievable

I received my new phone today and Samsung and Google had indeed backed up a lot of my stuff automatically when I logged back in.

So I managed to get all my contacts back, text messages, whatsapp chats.

Unfortunately all the photos and videos were gone, though. Unless I sent a photo to someone on whatsapp or they sent it to me. Then it's come back.

I had thought my photos and videos were being saved to the SD card but clearly not. Won't make this mistake again. Need to check it.

Have you still got the old phone? You’d think the pictures will still be on the internal memory. They will be recoverable somehow.

Or Atleast onto a another storage drive.

Anyway if you can confirm the phone turns on then couldn’t you just retrieve the files if you connect your phone to the computer?

And if you can’t a recovery company could. I had my back up hard drive fry and paid shitloads to get it recovered because I hadn’t backed that up for a while. Now I make sure I regularly update and back up the seperate hard drives.

Ironwolf nas drives are reliable as hell. But I’m sure all reputable hard drive producers create relatively reliable drives, not used of course.

so Daughter's iPhone is lost in the house somewhere, how to find it?

    1) it's on silent

    2) we think she's turned off 'find my phone' - so it reports as offline

    3) sending a message on WhatsApp get's 2 grey ticks - so it has power and is on

    4) wifi router shows it is connected - so it is in the house

We've literally turned her bedroom inside about and upside down looking for!

Located! It was in the cuff of the leave of her dressing gown. The pockets had been checked but who would think to look there! Obvious MrsR did, in the end!

The Motto here, don’t turn off „find my iPhone“, because if that’s „on“, you can make the iPhone make a noise, even if it’s on silent.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

Jeez. She must have a cuff like a wizards sleeve!

She is topping up your engine oil for the cross-country coming up. Your RPM is hitting a new high. To wait any longer would be to lose prime time... She picks up a Bugatti's momentum. You want her more at a Volkswagen's steady trot. Squeeze the maximum mileage out of your gallon of gas. But she's eating up the road with all cylinders blazing.

Only if she shares her location. You don’t have to do that....
