Default Proper Football in the 70s and 80s before those W***ers at Sky killed it.

Here’s one for the spotters; Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United, but who is the future England international seen here, admiring George Best:

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

He’s probably thinking that the Irish pisshead deserves to come back as a spaz in his next life

Your palms are holding her neck and thumbs are at her ears regulating the speed of her head as she swallows and then sucks up your machinery. She is topping up your engine oil for the cross-country coming up. Your RPM is hitting a new high. To wait any longer would be to lose prime time... She picks up a Bugatti's momentum. You want her more at a Volkswagen's steady trot. Squeeze the maximum mileage out of your gallon of gas. But she's eating up the road with all cylinders blazing.

George Best was sent off in this Northern Ireland V Scotland game.

Can anyone remember why he'd been sent off?

What a picture! ATV's Hugh Johns freezing his nuts off at the Victoria Ground, Stoke.

I have a memory from the early 90s, when ITV covered our division, of them bringing Huge Ones out of retirement one Sunday afternoon because Alan Parry, the regular commentator, was ill. Anyone else remember this?

ITV4, 1030 every Saturday morning, show the Big Match Revisited, we were on this weekend, getting thumped by Southampton in November 1979. Well worth a watch because they didn't always cover Division 1, but spent time at lower league grounds. The commentators all stayed regional, so Brian Moore does London/South East games, Gerry Harrison East Anglia, Hugh Johns the Midlands etc. There's a North East commentator I've forgotten too.

I can't remember the Alan Parry incident, but then again I didn't watch much football in the 90s, only Forest if I had the chance.

I certainly remember all those regional commentators. There was also Gerald Sinstadt, he did the Northwest games and there was a young Martin Tyler too, I think he represented the 'Southern tv' area. Same as you Dan, I can't remember who did the North east games.

There is a piece on the North East football programmes here - https://twohundredpercent.net/televi...ns-north-east/

Apparently the Tyne Tees company coaxed Kenneth Wolstenholme out of retirement to commentate on North East games in 1976 and he did the job until 1979.

Whilst Margaret did drink Gin & tonic, her reported favourite drink was Famous Grouse whisky. It was the Queen Mum who was a Gin drinker, although she mixed it with Dubonnet.

Makes me laugh, when you watch that greatest football teams ever series and the Forest one is on, the comments are “this could have been Leeds”. Missed out there didn’t they for their stubbornness and not done much since.

I’ve been watching episodes of Buggernation Street on YouTube over the last couple of weeks, it fits in quite well with this thread.
