Judging from his recent comments, Hughton, quite rightly, seems most concerned about our final-ball and finishing, I'd therefore expect him and Brazil to be looking to address that first-and-foremost, with Modesto scouring the continental market to see if there's potential signings that would meet CH's approval - notwithstanding of course the added barriers to that market presented by the post-Brexit situation.

In the meantime, I'd expect/hope that Mr Vrentzos will be looking to sort-out extended loans for Krovinović and Garner, whilst also trying to hammer-out a deal to somehow try and secure Knockaert, all of the while with FFP compliance in mind - unless the EFL will temporarily suspend the rules, given the Covid crisis?

Dembele and Clarke Harris from peterborough with Knockaert and Krovinovic coming back would be heaven for the way Hughton likes to play but that’s best hopes and we’d probably have to sell someone for that.

The other option is Knockaert to come back and we get the best out of Lolley and Taylor with Murray to come off the bench?

I also reckon Hughton would prefer a "meh" player who can deliver a ball like Bong, than a better player who can't like Ribs.

But like you say, maybe a bit more time under Hoots can develop Ribs further, he is only 24, and I keep thinking he's 27-28.
ioannu can deliver a good cross but his defending is a bit iffy.

He plays for Cyprus, so I'm pretty sure he'll still be an international when he's into his his 40's!

If we're going to play a relatively constrained/controlled approach to games, then a new striker is probably top of the shopping list, someone who combines all the good things from Murray, Grabban and Taylor into one player. We're probably going to have to spend quite a lot of money to get that player.

A central midfielder to replace Garner, assuming he doesn't come back for a second loan, is probably next important. Then you have Sow/Yates and New/Cafu to choose your two holding players between.

If we've got budget I'd be dropping the majority of it on those two players. We can probably cobble the other positions we need (right back, right wing, attacking midfield) from loanees or free signings.

There's also the (usually unpopular) option to free up cash with a sale of a young'un. Mighten may attract some offers and as he's still not first choice wide left it wouldn't be a huge immediate loss. If we could get nearer to £10m for him and needed a replacement then there's some decent players in the leagues below who we could tempt. Someone like Charlie Kirk from Crewe we'd probably be able to pick up for £1.5m or so.

Can't edit, but equally important is shifting players we no longer want, some of who will be on quite a wedge. Jenkinson, Colback, Arter, Diallo, one of the 3x left backs we have and perhaps Figgy too.

Ideally I'd like to see a squad of:

    GK: Samba, Smith, Shelvey
    RB: New, Richardson
    RCB: Worrall, Mbe Soh
    LCB: McKenna, Blackett
    LB: Ribeiro, Iannou
    RCM: Yates, Sow
    LCM: New, Cafu
    RW: New, Lolley
    AM: New, Johnson
    LW: Ameobi, New
    ST: New, Taylor, Murray

Five new players straight into the first eleven assuming none of the loans are retained. That's quiet a lot of activity to complete in a few weeks. There's 24 players there so space for one more player too.

Probably best to start planning them now Forest.

So the general consensus seems to be sack half the team and buy or loan players to fill the gaps.

Plus sell the bomb squad which has again grown alarmingly.

Should be an interesting few weeks.

A lot depends on our ability to keep the loans.

We clearly have lacked cutting edge going forward for a couple of years. If we don't address it in summer we will struggle to win enough games to get top six. Players like Krovinovic and Knockaert will help address that, if we don't get them we'll need someone else through the door.

Spine of the squad is pretty set already with at least 7 out of 8 CB's and CM's we'll want going into next season here already, and that's the hardest thing to get right, in my opinion, so I wouldn't worry too much about massive overhauls like we've had in the past.

    Boris? Yes, he’s pretty right-wing.

Not much of a footballer though, he’s too fat.

I suspect we're going to need to free up some money and the only three players in the squad with any real value are Samba, Worrall and Mighten.

Ideally I'd like to keep him but if we're forced into a sale then for me it'll be Mighten that goes, and we'll replace him with someone like Charlie Kirk for £6m+ less.

That money can then be used to drop on the important striker.

I don't think we have to spend absolutely loads to get a top six spot - plenty of teams show it can be done on constrained outlay.

But those teams usually have other things in their favour - a settled squad and management team, an influx of very good young players who've stepped up from the academy at once etc.

We're sort of in the middle ground where overall the squad is OK but just needs some fine tuning in certain areas. If we can ship out the high earners who are good for nothing more than a bench spot and can raise some capital in the process then that will give us the room to bring in a couple of paid for signings and some decent loans.

We have this discussion every window it seems though. There's a chunk of our fan base that think we can just magic up millions of pounds and we can buy whoever we want, with no problem, and no consequences. The reality is Forest have their hands half tied behind their backs, playing vs clubs with much bigger budgets thanks to parachute payments and also playing within constraints set by FFP.

Surprised we haven't learned yet that clubs in our position seem to do best when they put in place a long term plan and accept that challenging for promotion will take years not months. Every time we press the panic button we reset our clock and start from scratch.

View from Lincoln fans is that they have gone off the boil because of injuries to senior players (Bridcutt and the like) and Johnson and Rogers-I quote "full of flair but can't manage a game properly".

I think despite David Beckham bullshit, young Brennan still has a fair bit to learn and whilst he'll be very welcome back can't see him being to CH's taste for a year or two...

Mighten?. Unless we can find a daft continental club with wads of cash and no VCR or YouTube I can’t see anyone paying big bucks for Mighten. For me he’s been pretty underwhelming this season. That’s not to say he won’t improve, but at the moment there are flashes of pace and enthusiasm at the core of anything good that he does. He seems to lack strength at the moment and frankly looks like a youth in a mans game.

That might change of course with time but in these financially constrained times I can’t see anyone laying 5+ M on the table for him on current evidence.

Of the kids Brennan J is the one who might attract a decent bid.
