There was a young gun Rockabilly
Who's attempts to pull were quite silly
    He went onto the gaff
    To get plenty of muff
And found himself a wonderful filly!

There once was a cool rock and roller,
Who got worse as he became older.
    He picked up the girls,
    In between waltzer swirls,
And carried them off on his shoulder!

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

I started putting Rocka's story in verse, but realising it could end up nearly as long as his book I thought I'd better stop at the point where he joined the fair. :O)

The legend of Gaff Lad Gary

A virgin wannabe fairground Gaff Lad
Worked in a cobblers (God, isn't that sad)
He'd dream of fairgrounds every night
And colour his walls with posters bright.

    He'd sought a job as a signwriter
Which could have made his sad life brighter
Taking on the role of a devil
The man said, "Got a maths 'O' level"

Poor Gary, who's answer was a no,
Heard, "You can't do signs without an 'O'"
    Gary, seeing his prospects hobbled
Ended up in that shop that cobbled

One day the fun fair came to his town
So seeking a job he headed on down
When challenged he choked (oh, what the f*ck!)
Said that he liked the art on the truck.

Asked by the fair man if he could paint
Young Gary, shocked, came, all over feint.
Yes, he said and did quickly depart
Soon to return with arms full of art.

Liking what they'd seen they asked the kid
To paint on their lorry 'Hissing Sid."
"From now on Rembrandt he'll be known
And he's gonna be one of our own"

Hey Rocka, did you ever look in G-Force down Hockley when they did rockabilly inspired stuff in the early '80s?

I think that was a bit before my time. I spent most of my time in the Derby area during the early '80s.

A view from the paybox. Terry Atha giving it some spiel. (shame about the 5hite music). Btw, me and Pete Tei, painted those Waltzer cars together back in 2002.
