The size lends itself to a manhole, And possibly the reason why the trap door was installed, I am guessing new drainage has been installed and the man hole filled in ?
Do you have new drains or a newish man hole in the garden elsewhere?

There is one near the back door but I don’t think it’s new, the extension was done in 1987. This hole is 40 odd metres down at the bottom of the garden. Looks like the concrete slab was cut through and the slabs have been put around the hole before the shed was placed there.

Might have to dig a bit deeper.

Hmm , Makes you wonder if someone was a bit of a criminal and used it to stash stuff. All very odd.

I managed to break our pop-up gazebo yesterday - I tried to pop-it-up and pop-it-into-a-space-that-was-too-small.

    One of the struts snapped.

I can't find a replacement that as big as mine

this is the type - but it's a simple fix, where will I find this type of lightweight ali rectangle tubing? I've got all the fittings, so once I've got a big length I'll only need to drill a few holes in it

    EXACT SAME BENEFITS

If it's just box section then BnQ and wickes will probably have some, there's plenty of metal stockists on ebay too if not. As it's a small piece I doubt any proper yards would even charge if they had an off cut but that'd be diwn to luck if they have the right size.
