Didn't we sign a keeper in the summer and haven't we got some decent younger keepers knocking on the door?

Diallo is injured and Smith is shit. Shelvey is probably the next one but is he going to be better than Smith?

Christ is that the state of our GK setup?

Maybe we just roll Freeman into the goalmouth and hope his fat arse gets in the way ?

“He is fit now and he has had periods where he’s been back in training; it’s just that he’s broken down on a couple of occasions.

“There’s no doubt about the quality of the goalkeeper he is. It’s just a question of seeing him available more often.”

Could be worse, like that Greek keeper we signed from chaventry on loan (and later spent ages at Boro) who broke his achilles or something in his first training session. And Adam Federici.

Dimitrios Konstantopoulos, Adam Federici, Ben Hamer, Abdoulaye Diallo...

We've had some bizarre and unfortunate goalkeeper signings in the last few years. I'd still sign any of them again over Lumley though, as he has looked awful every time I've seen him play. Even Konstantopoulos is probably still a better keeper at 42 years of age playing for Thornaby FC in the Northern Leagues.

Absolutely. Lumley is absolutely shite and I'm pleased we didn't sign him. Backup keepers are rarely brilliant, but I hope we target someone better if we are still looking for a 2nd choice keeper in the summer.

Some of the others have been shite too.

    Rune Pedersen
    traffic cone
Paul Smith (was good enough in L1 though)
    Barry Roche was terrible
    Stojkovic

A fair amount don't rate Pants but he was much better than average.

Kapino, who we got on a free, played a few times, and sold on

Luke Steele, the only keeper I've seen run a mile from a long shot

I never really rated Ward either...

Even Beasant would do a better job right now than some of those.

Beasant was a great goalkeeper for us. He arrived with a reputation for blunders but never let us down.

De Vries has to be my favourite for ability.

Mad Vlad for character and possibly underrated.

Marco Pascolo was the start of us buying in duff keepers.

Paul Smith was destroyed by the fans. It made me ashamed the way we treated him.

Well said AR. Notwithstanding it came from a relative minority, the treatment they dished-out to him was shameful.

Unfortunately, that loud, moronic fringe has been around for a long time.

Who only signed because we couldn't get Zuberbuhler, who was his reserve for Switzerland.

Pascolo perhaps didn't get long enough with us but in the time he did get didn't really demonstrate that he was a multiple capped international keeper who had played in major tournaments. We'd just been relegated, Crossley was injured and not sure if we still had Fettis who finished the season so the signing made sense. Then Harry brought in Beasant who was one of the best keepers we have had.

Yes, wasn't he booed on or off in a preseason friendly or something? Shameful even if you think he's shite.

He was good enough for us in L1 but once we'd gone up was a weak link, a bit like the Smith we have right now he was a good shot stopper but didn't really have good distribution or command of his area. You could see the difference when we got Camp in on loan, despite being smaller than Smith and short for a keeper he was as good a shotstopper and far better at the rest of the game.

Camp went back to QPR initially didn't he and Smith started leaking goals again. Didn't Billy then get in another keeper?

As far as I know, Paul Smith is the only keeper we've ever encountered in the Pitcher and Piano on an LTLF night out. We were so smitten that we attempted to steal the chair he'd been sitting on.

Our taste in pubs has improved since then, but Forest's irregular ability to sniff out duff keepers hasn't changed.

    Default Joe Lumley [BUPA]

„Smudge“ was a genuinely decent bloke as well.

From memory, he used to live in Bradmore or somewhere like out that way, I sometimes saw him in Rudd doing a spot of shopping in the Co-Op. He used to drive an Audi convertible.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”
