We've chosen an absolute classic from the vinyl library to kick tonight off folks, in the form of the best album that the Stones never made.

Featuring the snakey slide-guitar and honey-dripped-in-mud vocals of the late, incomparable Lowell George, it's the sleazy New Orleans-inspired rock 'n roll and funky mountainous grooves of....Little Feat's Dixie Chicken (1973, original pressing).

To stay with the New Orleans link, tonight's tipple is a very quaffable French Merlot (from Sneinton Dale Co-Op, £7.99).

Greetings Pop Pickers, tonight myself and my good wife are listening to 60s chart toppers 'The Love Affair'

"We're bringing on back the good times..."

All washed down with a few bottles of Corona lager.

I think I’m out this week. An unusual Saturday, working on the garden until 6pm and my missus has only just woke up from a nod. I don’t like playing vinyl late because the neighbours have two you kids that go to bed early.

Looks like the headphones again for me...

The missus reminds me that we saw them down the Dungeon Gary, '66-ish.

I don't know here are the ones in my collection (Filmore East and West) Ten Years After, The Allman Brothers, Santana, Hot Tuna, Humble Pie (actually that one is Rockin' the Filmore),The Mothers and there must be others. I don't have the Hendrix one.

My vinyl session today was earlier in the at lunchtime and played three Beatles albums Help, With the Beatles and Rubber Soul. Very safe selection but that is the way it is today.

Here in spirit lads, ‘waves’ by Blancmange is currently on an 80’s playlist.

A double Whyte & Mackay on ice...

Must invest in some better headphones though. Someone recommended the Shure ones that are used in studios, pricey though!

Nice one Frank, I'd have loved to have seen them live. I like the voice of Steve Ellis too.

Back to the normal Saturday routine, so I'm making the vinyl choices tonight with the following couple of classics.....Neil Young's wonderful After The Goldrush (1970, original pressing).

Followed by his fellow-Canadian.....the incomparable Joni Mitchell's jazz-influenced Court and Spark (1974, original pressing).

A bottle of Portuguese red is uncorked and ready to pour, with a couple of single-malts for afters (still to decide which).

I've just arrived indoors after spending the whole day in the garden drinking home made Sangria and listening to the Beach boys and ELO too.

Tonight it's time for a mixture of 1970s Philly Sounds. Starting off with the Intruders.

No drink tonight after plenty of Sangria earlier.

    Happy listening everyone.

Some top music in there fellas!

I’m feeling a little fragile after the vaccination today, so it’s a steady 30’s/40’s Lounge Music compilation on Spotify. Just had a stiff shot of Teachers because I can’t get warm but won’t be going daft tonight.

    Have fun everyone!

I'm now on a neat 12-year-old Laphroaig Bryn.

Would I be correct in thinking it's your first jab? I had my second dose last week.

Yes first one mate, felt on a high for hours then went cold and starting shaking like Derby fan on Trent Bridge back in the day.
Strange how it affects people differently isn’t it. Hopefully feel a bit better tomorrow.

Good choice with the Laphroaig 12, lovely stuff!

As you can probably tell from my username, I do love Neil Young. Good choice, Otis.

The Shakey connection hadn't gone unnoticed. An excellent choice by yourself also.

After attending a couple of family gatherings (outside I hasten to add) we're back to the usual Saturday night routine and the vinyl deck is being fired-up.

I thought (hoped) tonight's choices would be with a celebration of the Shaggers' demise in mind and I had a couple classic Motown party albums lined-up (Temptations and Junior Walker & The All Stars). Anyway we've settled on another Motown classic.....Stevie Wonder's eclectic Songs In The Key Of Life (1977, original pressing).

Tipple choices...a French Sauvignon Blanc, and an as-yet-unopened Auchentoshan single malt.

I am queuing up a double-header tonight; some ska from Coventry‘s finest; Specials followed by More Specials.

To accompany that; a crisp Paulaner Hefe-Weißbier. Or two.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

    The Specials, good thinking Batman

I go like Strummer's Assembly especially the live version of 'Rudie can't fail'

Even to a dedicated CAMRA-card-carrier like me, Paulaner is a lovely beer Chris. Can't fault the music either.

The Undertones we're brilliant. Check out Get over You Live on you tube, fantastic stuff. And the Specials were a favourite back in 79 and have stood the test of time. It's all a load of bollocks and bollocks to it all.

Gone for a classic live LP to start proceedings tonight by way of....Sam Cooke's At The Copa (1964, original pressing).

Accompanied by a nicely-chilled Italian Soave (£6.99 from Sneinton Dale Co-Op.....no expense spared in our house!).
