Or they’re just absolutely incompetent (see: C. Grayling, G. Williamson, M. Hancock, P. Patel, L. Truss et al).

Major IT projects take years to implement. I should know, I’ve run a few.
The Civil Service hire in when they need to so that they can get around the internal pay rates. IT projects also work to a set of requirements developed before the project starts so other than minor changes it shouldn't matter who is in charge. Most projects (other than the likes of HS2, Crossrail, etc.) don't reach ministerial level unless they are going seriously wring, you're talking tens of millions, so they aren't to blame apart from being the boss way up in the clouds.

I've been clearing up these messes for the last 6 years so I'm living this particular dream every day.

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

Are they still outsourcing loads of stuff as well?

One of my divestiture projects last year, the buyer had some guys from EY, and they told me that they’d done some work for the Civil Service with some people from Deloitte.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

I’m inclined to agree. Can’t see what they add that civil servants couldn’t do to be honest.

It’s the same in a large corporation.
Chief Exec; Finance Director or whoever decides to bring them in for their ‘expertise’ and any savings or efficiencies that they find usually cover a tiny fraction of their fees.

we have had many consultants (or ***** for short) over the years who have plundered immense wages to do absolutely bugger all or in the rare, best case scenarios do what the original team/manager would/could have done anyway. It's 50/50 whether I despise them or the people that are willing to throw away public money on them more.

The government have spent £60m and counting on consultancy for COVID response specifically, whilst at the same time reducing the number of permanent employees within the service assigned to COVID response.

The contracts given to the consultancy firms have been taken unilaterally under decree measures.

This is tax payer money - your money take from you - given to private contracts by one man without any oversight...

The current Government is nothing but a scam. The act of government is a distraction from the real objective which is the transfer of public money to acquaintances.

I doubt this is a useful comment but under Fascism, it's ordinarily the government that directs business.

Without strategy, execution is aimless. Without execution, strategy is useless.

There are loads, you can add Atos, Qinetiq, CGI and DXC to the list off the top of my head. IR35 has put paid to individuals going in and clearing up on their own but all the big consultancy firms have stepped up and are skimming their margin.

There's about 20 firms who have worked on COVID consultancy alone.

That is consultancy, not the full whack of outsourcing.

Latest estimates put R around 1.1 down from around 1.7, Either the distancing measures are working again or the issue is just mixing going up briefly due to schools and universities.

Although Prof Whitty said last night that the infections in school-age children weren't affected much, though the 15-21 age group was showing still concerning increases after the same point being made a few weeks back.

I would actually be locking down this age group, they must stay at home, unless they are going to their place of work, or their place of education, or other essential travel such as shopping for essentials, basically like the lockdown, for a few weeks so they get the message.

...or the number of people who can’t get tested is keeping the figure lower.

I don't think they just use positive tests, the symptom tracker study things also come into it as well, in any case, R is always an estimate and is within a range.

My, 'um', favourite conspiracy theorist now claims that Bill Gates is running the show as far as the UK is concerned and we are going to become the vaccine testing guinea pig of the world. This is because Chris Whitty is about to be appointed to the executive board of the WHO, and has received £31Million in funding from Bill.

She had been quiet since just a couple of weeks ago claiming that the virus had gone and there were no deaths. And after this theory is debunked by events, there will no doubt be a new one.

Yeah I’ve heard that one. Bill Gates seems to get embroiled in these mental conspiracy theories quite a lot I believe. Isn’t he the head of some global child sex trafficking operation according to those Qanon loons?

We live in a disinformation age. It’s all very sad.
