The warnings were loud not to do it. Many of the people who invited families over for Christmas will have spent months espousing how the pandemic is over-egged and personal responsibility and common sense should be the order of the day, not government mandated restrictions.

Whilst I don't think the Government covered themselves in glory in their handling of the Christmas period, if everyone took this bloody pandemic seriously it wouldn't have mattered.

Itís worth noting some of the old uns are being quite stubborn about the virus as well.
Not sure what that guys exact situation was, sounds like he is a key worker and single parent, but you can almost hear his parents saying donít pay for childcare, weíll look after them.

Ive across a few through work that are quite adamant they are going to the shops as normal and seeing their grandkids.

Itís a lousy situation for everyone.

    Is it the Oxford test?

I've been tested for covid the last few months now, from Oxford. I did one a week for a month, now it's one test per month for a year. And I get paid £25 per test.

I've not seen the letter yet, the missus told me I'd had a letter and I asked her to open it. It's from imperial College London.

Yes, throughout they have said - clearly at the more critical times - that you should stay at home, work from home if you can, and reduce social contact especially with people you don't live with.

That's always been the advice, even in July/August when things like pubs were open, even when there was the rule of 6, in the tiered systems etc.

They didn't ban Christmas bubbles in anywhere but tier 4, but they did strongly caution against doing it or going too far, unfortunately some people don't take a hint, and others would perhaps just stick two fingers up at it and go anyway. Coronavirus isn't too bothered about if it's Christmas and household mixing without distancing was always going to be a way of driving up infections. What's surprised me more is that schools not being open has outranked it but then, that was seemingly happening way before in the SE.

People need to stop looking for excuses to go out the house or try and socialise, think if it is necessary for them to go out, and if it isn't don't

To me the Oxford test is 'can you go more than a day without wanting to smack a student in the face'

Spend a day here....... it is impossible.

My Mrs is collecting various test medical studies like a girl guide collecting badges. She has done an antigen, antibody (are they the same?) vitamins D, etc.

    EXACT SAME BENEFITS

Sounds like she's put herself forward where I've been asked randomly. I'm happy to do my bit to save civilisation as we know it.

I’m really trying to avoid using obvious double entendres, but in the face of such obvious temptation...it’s hard, it’s so, so hard.

I mentioned last week that a London based colleague of mine was in ICU, email this Morning from the MD to say he passed away yesterday.

Early 60s leaves wife, kids & grandkids.

Still, its just a bit of flu eh!

    Sad news Eddie.

Now over 100,000 deaths in the UK since it forat arrived on these shores less than a year ago.

    Some sobering analysis

I was talking online last night to a bloke who revealed that he cheerfully ignores lockdown rules to have meet-ups with his extended family. In his view, he's just being a bit naughty.

An interesting fact about this man is that he's a medical doctor who is aspiring to join the NHS as an emergency medic in the near future.

Sometimes I doubt whether there really is a way out of this black hole.

My work are now offering free antibody tests to all staff and students, so I took it today.

Interesting piece of kit - it was essentially a home pregnancy test, but you pop a drop of blood in, and it gives you the result within ten minutes.

Apparently there's two types of antibodies - one short-term and one long-term. I tested negative for both of them, which is a shame, but at least this way I can be confident that I haven't accidentally passed the virus on to anyone else.
