It’s still 5pm though. If the deadline is 5pm it isn’t very clear. If they had specifically said it should be registered on or before 17:00:00 then there is no wriggle room, 17:00:21 is too late. Deadline of 5pm and we did it before 17:01 struck then we have still done it before the deadline had passed.

You set your alarm clock for 5pm it goes off at 5pm. Not 17.00.21.

I'm no lawyer but I can't see how we have a leg to stand on.
Unless representatives from Forest, Grosicki and West Brom all turn up and show a willingness for this to happen, I really can't see the EFL agreeing to it. And straight afterwards, no matter the verdict, that loophole will be closed when the deadline is amended to ensure this doesn't happen again.

I hope we get away with it, but it doesn't make it right. If any other club did the same we would be quite rightly fuming about it. Especially with a player of Grosicki's Championship pedigree.

I donít know but I assume 00:01 and 21 seconds is past that deadline too!

    Quite right.

And no one here is arguing that 00:01:21 is still midnight. I think we'd agree under the EFL rules, 00:00:21 still is.

That seems to be the point here. 5:00:21 still appears to be 5pm.

Hopefully, on Tuesday we'll find out and then we can all argue for a week or so if they got it right.

Without strategy, execution is aimless. Without execution, strategy is useless.

Is everyone still discussing the particulars about a clock here?

    Only in 2020.

I'm nearly 50. I've seen hundreds of examples of time-precise deadlines, both in real life and fictionalised (books, films and TV) and I cannot think of a single example where the deadline is, not at the turn of that minute, but at the end of it.
Like others have said, I hope we get away with it. But I can't pretend I'll feel we've been cheated if the ruling goes against us.

    Or, in Forest's case, 2021.

Funny thing is, there was a really easy way to have avoided all this.

    Get it done before 5pm.

Our own incompetence for whatever reason meant we didn't.

If it doesn't happen it's our own fault, not the authorities for applying their rules.

If 2020 ends at midnight, New Yearís Eve, what year is it at 21 seconds past midnight?

    Lawyers would agree with you.

And if a "Precedent" is set then it will open the door for hundreds more in the future to try an push though late completed deals

LTLF gold for the thread that has had people argue about time for pages and pages?
