Presumably this means that Bong and Benalouane are definitely in the bomb squad, given that he covers both positions.

Won't be as bad a signing as some people will make out on here. On a free now I assume?

Decent signing on a free, good age and got a decent amount of experience at this level.

Are Forest finally doing smart business?

Sounds sensible. Blackett at no fee and relatively low wages allows to ship out others on higher wages.

Your palms are holding her neck and thumbs are at her ears regulating the speed of her head as she swallows and then sucks up your machinery. She is topping up your engine oil for the cross-country coming up. Your RPM is hitting a new high. To wait any longer would be to lose prime time... She picks up a Bugatti's momentum. You want her more at a Volkswagen's steady trot. Squeeze the maximum mileage out of your gallon of gas. But she's eating up the road with all cylinders blazing.

Yeah. Hopefully that means Bong is out and we still bringing in a CB.

Usually I would say back up defence isn't the most important but the difference between our first choice and second choice last season was far too much.

Wouldnt profess to knowing much about him, but having read up on him, his strengths are:

    He's a strong unit.
    Shit quick.
Can pass a ball out with quality.

    Weakness

Doesnt travel well with the ball
prone to coughing up daft fouls.

This appraisal was some years ago, so he may have evolved his game. Looks a decent signing all told. Good fit for a counter attacking outfit & can play as a CB.

    Urgh, he’s crap.

Would rather have Friend or Ioannou than Blackett for the backup LB/CB role

9 posts before we got one, nearly a record?

But in all seriousness, haven't we learned that we shouldn't be calling anyone shit or not good enough after most wrote off Ameobi last summer?

Weird for a French journo to break a transfer like that. Seems to be under the same agency as Ameobi and Tyler Walker.

The claim (from Paul Taylor I think?) that we're looking to go with experienced British-based in terms of recruitment this window appears to be accurate with Colback, this one (should it happen of course) and the reported failed bid for Keifer Moore.

Just a reminder that I backed Ameobi to be a success

Re Blackett, he adds something a little different to our left back options in his height and pace but I think statistically him and Yuri are very similar. Blackett probably edges it defensively whereas Yuri edges it offensively, but that could be more a product of the system reading play

As good as Ribeiro was, he did struggle physically.

Makes sense to get a more imposing option.

Tyler blackett is a CB not a LWB that we need. I wince at Friend and Blackett being mentioned as backup LWB as mase said they dont travel with the ball. We simply need players who travel with the ball well if we are to sit deep and counter. The point I am trying to make is Blackett at LWB will make plan A worse. Albeit I dont think he is bad signing for a backup CB.

But in our style you have to travel with the ball, if you dont travel with the ball in our style that makes us almost ultra defensive as thats where all our attacks come from. This is why Lolley did well last season as he is our best traveller with the ball. This is also why I fear Jenkinson being our Right Back next season. I have seen Darikwa travel with the ball before so they may play him but injury prone players and Forest are a disaster waiting to happen.

Can detect sarcasm there sorry if not, but our full backs and wingers pick the ball up most of the time halfway in there own half. We play without possession and look to counter, if we want to do that plan better we are simply going to need players who travel with the ball especially out wide. Can you see the logic in that? Blackett played at Reading last season who had a slower build play and played more for possession which would suit him more. When Blackett plays for us we are going to need him to get up and down quickly will he do that?

Depends if we’re bringing him in for CB or LB cover doesn’t it, really.

I think you've picked up a potential weak spot of Blacketts & run riot with it. Apparently the lads rapid & can pick a pass, if central midfield turn up this season we might just make some headway passing the football, full backs tend to offer width on the overlap, I dont see his issues travelling with the ball as something that cant be overcome or maybe coached.

I would imagine we recruit this season to evolve.

Thats the point I made! I think he is a decent enough signing for a backup CB I just wince at the thought of him playing LWB.
