Sorry for my ignorance in this matter but i am confused as to why they are looking at roy keane ?
surley John Robertson would be the better choice as Martins assistant as he has stated in past he would jump at the opportunity to get back into football ?
Or have i missed something ?
1) Roy Keane is a bastard

Because JR has retired and has 'bad health'? Personally think Keane is a decent addition.

Without knowing the exact dynamic between the two, MON comes across as the studious type who makes players feel a million bucks & tweaks the style mid game. Would imagine Keano holds the hairdryer & reminds the players every now & again the overall standard required.
Also think Roy is responsible alongside the other coaches for drilling the players day to day & pre game.
Good cop bad cop. Wouldnt be underestimating what Keano brings though, he aint just the muscle.
People have an outdated view of how organisations work if they think Martin will be bringing in a ‘hardman’ as his assistant.
Ideally, his assistant would have been Robbo, but as has been stated he retired a few years ago. The important thing is that Martin is able to bring in someone he trusts and can work well with. If Martin wants Keane as his assistant then so be it.
Stand Firm And Strike Hard
Why not Roy, more like?
„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“
„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

We need someone like Keane to "man up" some players we seem to fade towards the end of games or go to pieces, some of our players need some mettle to finish the games off, rather than give games away to draws or defeat.
Why not?
If MoN and Roy have formed a good working relationship, surely that's better for us, no?

10th at best.
Well there's no mention of him in the club statement so maybe he isn't coming after all?
I think people that suggest all Roy Keane is is a bloke that shouts and is there to be angry are doing him a disservice.
I also don’t agree with the notion that all our players need is a kick up the arse, we are still having a decent season.
And let’s not forget he has worked under two of the finest managers in English football. He must know a thing or two.
The Club have so far only announced Martin O‘Neill.
Undoubtedly, the New Manager will want to introduce his own staff, perhaps unexpectedly, like....
Because he is a legend.
That is all.

I think Keane's reputation as a player belies the reality of his actual qualities. He comes across as an intelligent guy to me, albeit one who's not afraid to speak the truth when it's needed. He's played at the highest level (under two of the greatest managers of all time), had experience in both the hot seat and also as an assistant manager. And what's more he's a club legend. I really hope he joins as MoN's number 2.
He is a WINNER.
I always thought he was a bit of a knob.
Then I read his autobiography.
And I still think he's a bit of a knob.
I'm just never sure of him. I don't know why he needs the bravado so much, I agree with Cortez I think he has a lot more to offer than the hard man stuff but doesn't seem to be willing to show it, publicly at least. It's a shame because he does come across as a bit of a nob because of it.
Roy is watching.
