Cash, Osborn, Yates, Brereton? There is very clearly a pathway. A pathway doesn’t mean having guaranteed places in the starting XI for every youth player, it means they have a route into the squad which in turn gives them a chance to impress and get into the side if they are good enough.

Which, in turn, will be better for their development. Last season was a massive burden on Worral & Brereton as they were relied on heavily and the Forest fans (some) were less than surportive

If I was a young player, I'd be trying harder to get in that team and push one of the foreign players out.

I don't see the problem here. If they've got it in them to want to succeed, they'll be in the team. It raises performance levels all round and brings about healthy competition for places.

Karanka has said that himself. If they perform in training, they will play.

Can you imagine one of the really successful sides choosing not to bolster with experience simply because they want to maintain an easy path to the first team for youth players?

We need to change the culture. The bar has been raised and the kids will make it in the first team on merit, not just because we don't have many options - that will help them more longer term anyway.

I'm sure Joe Lolley will be aware of what this fella can do.
He played as a striker in one game for Huddersfield and scored twice, so maybe seen as a an option at both ends of the pitch?
    Happy to trust AKs judgement.

As disappointing as potentially losing Worrall may be, I do rate Hefele and £350k is a great price to be fair. Good in the air (at both ends of the pitch), good attitude and experience of winning promotion, he'll be a decent addition.

Good point, be nice to have someone who looks capable of getting on the end of one of our corners. Particularly with the improved delivery.

He would be only the third German to play for Forest also, I believe?

Scored 5 goals in Huddersfield's promotion season I think. Definitely gives us another threat and a big physical presence from set pieces, which is something we've lacked in recent years.

I am not sure that anyone is in for Worrall, I think its more a knee jerk reaction to the fact that in our first two games our weakness to high balls into the box has continued to be exposed.

Exactly. The mediocrity mindset is ingrained with some fans.

Agreed seems a snip, but what if another similar bargain comes on the market next week, do we bring him in as well. Team dynamics are so important and as Karanka keeps saying he wants a sqaud who all train like they feel they could get the nod on saturday, i don't understand how that happens with 6 centrebacks.. I would have thought 4-5 plus youth liek Anel who could get some minutes in the cup.. Maybe he's looked at Daws and thought he's dropped a ball but it feels a little wierd..

If - for example - you’re perhaps going to play three at the back (as Aitor Karanka has done before) then six isn’t that silly.

Well he was saying the same about the experience of Dawson two months ago, he looked really shaky at Oldham (Worral looked twice the player by the way) and not good against Bristol City.. Maybe Daws is injured or he's decided to retire (thought he had for the first 15 mins at Bristol)..

But he doesn't realyl mess around with his team. I don't disagree with adding quality to the squad but i don't like this stockpiling of players it just can't be healthy for the team.. 6 CB's is too many for me, i'm assuming that someone is off or Kranky does like someone...

I was thinking the same - I like the sounds of this guy but don't we already have too many players. But then, as fans, is this something that should concern us? Let the manager and owners worry about team dynamics and we can worry about supporting the team?

We have a plethora of decent ball playing centre backs, but none you can count on to clear that inswinging ball into the box with his head.

Heffele sounds like he may bring a different dimension, you also have to account for injuries too.

Team dynamic looks as good as its ever been on the pitch, think its a red herring personally.

Of course one difference this year is that once the window shuts today (and the loan window in a few weeks) then that is it until January. He (AK) will know what risks we run between now and then fitness-wise, and will also have an idea who may be moving out on loan. The days of fiddling around because we can always address an issue in November if we need to are long gone, if we are to be successful.

Anyway, this may all still be paper talk

A bigger worry would be if the Byram deal falls through, and AK makes the time-honoured Forest managerial mistake of thinking that Fox can slot in at right back...

    Centre half options are :

Daws - 35 in Nov, vast experience, may be feeling his way back to form slowly. Will be an influential figure but won't be up to a full season.
Fox - 32. Converted from LB and does a decent enough job at CB. AKs getting a tune out of him and long may it last.
Figi - 24. Settled in well last season. Off season surgery? Limited preseason. Regaining fitness and form.
Joe - 21. Off season surgery? Not figured in the first two squads. Should be in contention before too long unless there's an injury setback or something we don't know about.
Lam - 24. Despite a decent preseason I don't think he's in AKs plans and I think could be loaned out.
Robinson - 25 in a few weeks. Provide cover at CB but should be competing with Benny for LB.
    Don't think I've missed anyone?

I think adding Hefele at a good age, good height with promotion experience and potential to be nuisance at both ends of the pitch could be a decent bit of business for 400k.
