It’s not unique to Whiskey, there’s a lot of snobbery and ‘this method is the only correct method’ bullshit around my favourite drinks - beer and rum - too. I just assume it’s the same for every beverage. Apart from meths.

Have you thought of brewing yourself? Meant to ask you this a while back.
A local guy set up a small micro brewery bar and it’s really popular, I know now isn’t a good time but I think with your level of interest you would make a good go at it.

The good news is, I’ve accelerated my mortgage and only have 6 years until it’s paid off (assuming I don’t get fired). So, I’ve still got a little time to plan for the Congo brewery, launching 2027 :-)

Oh aye, I’ve read and heard all sorts, from ice ‘shocks’ the whisky to don’t use tap water because chlorine pollutes the whisky. There’s a lot of snobbery around the serious whisky crowd.
I suppose you have to find what works best for you.

In terms of regional scotch I like the Islay ones like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Bowmore and add Jura in there as well. Talisker is nice too. Most of those are smokey and a bit medicinal tasting, if you like the ones with more fruity tones like Monkey Shoulder then Speyside is a good region to look at.

I think it's why I'm sort of looking round the cheap stuff at the moment, if its not great I could just stick it in coke. There is some more expensive ones I really want to try though.

In general I like tough flavours but don't have them often. Speyside is exactly what I'm looking at actually. I'm thinking of getting a Speyside, a Bourbon and something random as a three printer attack and just having a small sup every other day. But I've no idea what to look for, it's a bit option paralysis at the moment. Will defo do a thread tomorrow with some stuff I'm looking at

Birthday tomorrow but a shit load of work to do tomorrow and rest of week so I’m going to pick a nice red tonight and finish it tomorrow. That’s the plan anyway!
