Alan Nixon
Nottingham Forest to bring in a director of football type person. Luke Dowling. Ex Watford and other places.
Right out of leftfield! Here's a bit of reading about his time at Watford:

Cos the last couple of DoFs were so successful. No ta!
Hopefully he’s not here because he’s the manager’s mate.
Stand Firm And Strike Hard
If Karankas given his blessing, this bloke looks to have a decent pedigree.
If karanka sets the targets & Dowlings strength is negotiating favourable terms for the club , then theres no reason why everyone wouldnt be happy.
Looks a better set up for the club than the last one.
Agree. It seems to be acknowledged (if not accepted) by most that the manager will only ever be a bad run away from his P45. So for the club itself to have some stability going forward, it is important that the DoF is less subject to the whims of the owner and also not directly tied to the manager. If one goes it is important that the other remains to ensure smooth transition and (hopefully) that the overall direction of the club remains unaffected.
Bit more about Watford:
http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/spo...h_into_top_10/"I look back on three very good seasons," he told talkSPORT. "I joined when we were a Champ club, but I felt Watford are established in the Premier League.
"I oversaw the whole club, the manager, the players and recruitment, and helping recruit the medical side of it, as well as having an eye on the Under-23s and academy to make sure they’re filtering and doing similar things to the first team. The roles are different at other clubs.
"We want to make sure the academy and the first team are all on the same page and it has to be treated as one club"
Given me a chubbby
Arggh my fucking head! So many singings and now this!
Further confirmation from the Beeb.
Doesn't sound like a full-blown, "I call the shots", DoF to me. More like head of recruitment, chief-scout for British football, and, in general, an addition to the "football people" whom I was talking about the other day, saying that it shouldn't be just Karanka and Vrentzos making decisions.
Fair to suggest he was the one who signed Guedioura, Watson + Pantilimon then?
Sounds like a good addition.
Such a contrast off the field to when Fawaz was owner.
Fairly similar on the pitch so far but we have to start somewhere........
Poor old Fawaz. He couldn't cope with two mates running the show, now have a full Hollywood cast list back there he would be totally stressed!
My concern with this position is that when it’s someones job to recruit new players they generally do that even when it’s not needed. They actively working against recruitment from the youth team.
But if your role is to have an overview of the ability of Academy players, as well as recruit externally, then you're not going to need to spend if you can produce your own.
You've then got more money to go out and buy the players that you need, but haven't got coming through the system?
Decent.

Sensible appointment. He seems to have worked in some very challenging circumstances so he shouldn't be fazed by anything at the CG.
Confirmed by the club today, worth noting his job title is Sporting Director not Director of Football.

Sporting Director?
Makes a change, we’ve had a few Cheating Directors in our time....
„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“
„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”
