Id be stunned if the next manager falls for it again & loses his job. Awful again last night, asked to perform a role of passing the football ought not have yielded such horrible results irrespective of how daft the idea.
Thought he did ok against Cardiff but as pointed out he was our play maker last night, expected move ball through midfield onto our attackers-whilst Garner was higher up pitch barely getting a kick. Not surprisingly yates passed it back centre backs to do the play making! I quite like Yates but he was stitched up last night by houghton

For all the slating Yates gets, he was still the better midfielder out of the two on the park last night in a Forest shirt...

Can't understand why Garner is running all over the shop rather than acting as the playmaker in the middle in *** Watson type role.
Agree that Yates didn't get the ball forward well but just don't understand why he's the one tasked in that role?

Oh well, Hughton has gone so let's see if more sensible team alignments are put in place.

What Yates lacks in technical ability he makes up for in hardwork, commitment & loyalty

It's all about balance & successful teams have a grafter

If Yates had Carvalho's qualities & vice versa neither would be at Forest

Just pleasing to see him played in his correct role and not as a playmaker, who literally everyone bar Chris Hughton could see he wasn't suited to

    Good lad

To be fair I don't think Hoots saw him as a play maker. Its just in the abortion of a system we ended up playing Yates was so deep he ended up seeing far too much of the ball. I'm not sure even after a hefty dose of hallucinogenic chemicals that anyone could describe what Yates did with all the possession he had as anything remotely close to "play making". Passing sideways to full backs who them have no option to punt it down thee line I'll give you...

Why did he keep playing him as one then?

No, because he wasn't very good at it

Aside from the obvious (which I thought we'd stopped talking about on here lol) he is a pretty strong unit isn't he? One of the taller players we have and built solidly to match. You would imagine he won't lose many physical battles in his career.

Was great to see him shouting at the side to get further up the pitch after we started to sit deep in the second half yesterday

He's got a good head on his shoulders

He was deliberately collecting the ball from deep time after time whilst our actual ball player Garner was, at the same time, almost stood next to Lyle Taylor, presumably being instructed to look for the knock down once we went long.

It happened all the way through multiple games. It wasn't a coincidence it was an instruction.

It was fucking stupid and it right got my back up. Many others on here noticed it too and we equally dumbstruck by the stupidity of it

30/09/2021: It's only 8 points to the play-offs. Doesn't matter if we're 20th having lost three times as many games as we've won so far. I fancy us now that Hughton's gone.

Looking back it was like Hughton was self-harming.

I guess he was caught up in circles. Confusion is nothing new here.

You could almost hear our forwards shouting "If you're lost, you can look and you will find me", and our defense shouting "If you fall, I will catch you, I'll be waiting".

    Before Hughton left.

Long ago I wandered thru my mind
In the land of fairy tales and stories
Lost in happiness I knew no fears
Innocence and love was all I knew
    It was an illusion
Soon the days were passing into years
Happiness just didn't come so easy
Life was more than fairy tales and daydreams
    Innocence was just another word
    It was an illusion
Lost in the wheels of confusion
    Running thru valleys of tears
    Eyes full of angry delusion
    Hiding in everyday fears
So I found that life is just a game
But you know there's never been a winner
Try your hardest, you'll still be a loser
The world will still be turning when you're gone
    Yeah, when you're gone

Apparently, Ryan has been specifically working on seeing the pass in training - adjusting his body position to give him greater awareness of the pitch when he receives the ball.

He has several qualities which have been obvious for a while: height; physicality; off the ball movement. But his passing has been pretty tame.

There have been numerous occasions when a progressive pass has been on, but he's looked lacking in confidence to attempt it, so has taken the safer option of a pass to the full back or backwards to the CBs. Perhaps that was down to CH's instructions, but maybe it is purely to do with confidence? Maybe, if we start calling him the Lincoln Pirlo, he'll develop the necessary faith to attempt those trickier passes?

Needs to be dropped, his decision making was terrible and sat on the ball way too long.
